Calais to Normandy region

Hi all,

We are thinking of going down to the Normandy region next year and would be greatfull for any advice on driving time, sites near beaches and best time for ferry crossings. I am still tied to the school holiday times so therefore July/August would the period.

Has anyone used the L'Anse du brick site, as recomended by the CC Club?

I travelled a few years ago from Calais, leaving Cite Europe after our shopping at about 11am.. travelled autoroute/peage all the way possible, crossed Pont De Tancarville at Le Havre straight round Caen on the bypass and on to a Small cosy site a few miles past Bayeux... Camping Reine Mathilde.

Found the travelling relatively easy, Caen being the worst area. We took our time and mad a few Aire stops due to young children (didn't get gassed for our valuables) and got to the site late afternoon. The access via small lanes could have been a bit dodgy, but no-one else on the road meant there were no problems. The site was a few miles from the beaches at Omaha, too far to walk, but the site had a lovely pool, a small shop, bar, restaurant and facilities were clean.
