I live next to Portmeirion and would recommend two sites. The Caravan Club site at Gellilydan about 5 miles from Porthmadog just off the main road to Dolgelleau. this is a very good site up to the usual club standards. Gellilydan is a small village. There is a pub accross the road from the site. The site is quiet and peaceful.

The other site is called Barcdy at Talsarnau on the main coast road to Harlech and Barmouth.Good clean commercial site but they do not allow dogs.

Hope you have a good holiday.

Hi, a good site to visit in Porthmadog is Tyddyn LLwyn. The showers are clean and the people are friendly, there is a family room/pub but you never here any noise or anything.Turn left by Woolworths, carry on up the road and it is the first site you will come to on the right. They do have a website. We have been 4 times this year.

Adrian, we have just returned from a visit to Caernarfon and stayed at the CC site Coed Helen. The site is all grass bar two pitches with a slope and is managed. Its adjacent to a static park who i suspect, are the owners of the CC site. The toilet block is a sort of porta cabin but its ok and serves its purpose. Its only 10 min walk into Caernarfon accross a swing bridge directly oposite the Castle. Its an ideal touring base for Snowdonia and is approx 15 - 19 miles from Porthmadog. LLanberis is 9 miles and is at the foot of Snowdon. We found the area full of history and plenty to see if you take the time to look and travel.

Has anyone been to the Black Rock Sands site? Its right on the beach and looks ideal but whats it like to stay there? We were slightly put off when we walked around it by an enormous Rotwieler which flew at us when we walked past. Fortunately it was on a chain and the owner came out and threw a bucket of water over it which seemed to calm it down! (I should explain the dog belonged to a caravaner not the site owner)

A nice site to visit is Dinas Dinlle. Its in Caernavon,it does have a club but not noisy and the family room where the children go is no smoking. And an adults only conservatory where you can smoke. The beach is at the top of the road, about 150mtrs, along with a couple of shops and take aways. You can park up there and not have to use your car at all.Lovely and clean and has security vans who tour regularly. It has a website.
