Does anyone have the web address or contact details for the caravan and camping club.

www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk does seem to be working

Whilst I'm here, which club would you recommend a newboy join, the Caravan club or the camping and caravan club?

Thanks

Gavin

My own personal choice after using both for a year was the C.C.

Your best course of action would be to join and use both for the first year and then choose from your own preferences.

hi gavin

ditto c&c for us if any, we used to be in both but were turned away from quite a few c&cc sites when we had the motorhome as quote "we dont allow hardtops" on our site.

to be honest unless you want to use cls I would not bother joining a club. we have found small farm sites and forestry commision sites ect more than adequate when touring.

Gavin....Good advise from LB. Try both, horses for courses!

We prefer the CC because their sites are all of a generally good standard, so we are almost guaranteed to find the facilities in good order, particularly the shower blocks.

I'm not going to knock the CC&C because they do have some excellent sites but from our experience some of their sites vary enomously in standards. The pitching on some CC&C sites is not as clearly defined as well. This might be because they cater for a lot of Tent campers, wheras the CC have limited sites for tents which are usually located in a seperate field to the caravans and motorhomes.

We remain members of both clubs because I have found the Continental touring insurance with the CC&C is better value than the CC (although I have never claimed) and to get the best deals you need to be a club member.

The website for the CC&C is:

Lord B is right, try both for a year then choose. They are different and have very different coverage of the country. You can probably save your membership costs fairly quickly as both charge a lesser pitch fee for members. I think the year we joined the CC we saved ours in one holiday.

I prefer to use CC sites in spring and autumn as the toilet blocks are usually heated and I'm a softie. But the C&CC offer good over-55 discounts in medium and low season and family deals.

What colin-yorkshire says is also good advice regarding small sites but the problem is locating them unless it's by word of mouth or looking at ....

http://www.5van.co.uk/
..... which doesn't list many sites. A good example though is today I've been looking to book a CC site in Cornwall for 8 days in October. The club site I looked at will cost me

Latest website address for Camping & Caravanning Club is www.thefriendlyclub.co.uk, but when I last tried it diverted onto www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk. Anyway, it's another alternative!

We are members of both clubs - joined C&CC for preferential recovery with RAC. Went on a rally at Margam Park and given a pitch to park up which was away from the main hub of the meet and then totally ignored by the locals. A couple from England who were touring Wales came and joined us as they felt in a similar way. Never been on a CC rally but if it is like the other lot they can keep their rallies and we will go to commercial sites as done in the past. Contemplating resigning from the CC as never used any of their services.

We tried 3 rallies with different clubs and all were the same. Hogging the best pitches for their mates etc. Stupid games to be played etc. Told them straight out to stick rallies where the sun doesn't shine.

Having said that we have been on a few meets with ukcampsite and thoroughly enjoyed them. I wonder why there is such a difference between a rally and a ukcampsite meet?

We are in both clubs and use them both for what they are best good at.

The CC is used for overseas bookings and Red Pennant, many times I have found that the C&CC were unable to book large units onto a site only to find that the CC can. Dont know why. We also do some school holiday time rallies with the CC.

For weekend rallies and Temp holiday sites, the C&CC cannot be beaten because you just turn up. The CC make you book in advance which is a pain and takes away the choice of being able to go anywhere at short notice or go with better weather.

So to both clubs I saykKeep up your good work and thank you.

We've joined both for our first year's caravanning. We initially just joined the Caravan Club and booked a few holidays on their sites but then we were struggling to get in for Easter. We ended up joining the Camping & Caravanning Club as well as we saved the cost of our membership on our Easter break alone. The C&CC Big Site book is very extensive and, as we will sometimes holiday with tent campers, it is quite useful for finding sites that take tents as well as caravans.

From what we've heard though, Caravan Club sites are the 'creme de la creme' for facilities etc and we have friends who will only use them and no others. We'll see though as we're booked on at Sheepcote Valley, Brighton and Longleat so far already this year having tried The Grange in Durham in October which was most impressive.

Thanks everyone, some really useful stuff here.

Managed to speak to C&CC, they confirmed their website was down for a bit.

Initially I think we're opting for the C&CC. I currently have breakdown cover with the RAC and so it wont cost much to up this cover to include the van if I go through the C&CC. Plus their insurance worked out about

Hi Gavin, we belonged for years to the C&CClub, only joined the CC so that we have more CS/CL's to use. We do have the caravan insured through them. The C&Cclub have interest sections, i.e. folk group, (us) photographic group, canoeing group etc. etc. depends where your interests lie.

Try www.thefriendlyclub.co.uk or telephone them on 0845 130 7631 or 024 7647 5448

Good luck. The camping club is very friendly and the help I had following my husband's stroke last year from folk group friends was great.
