Living within a spit of the Plymouth to Sandander ferry, and after a couple of glasses or five of wine, SWMBO and myself decided that a trip to Spain or Portugal would be as cheap as a package deal and much more fun,

So guys and ladies the floor is yours, where would you recommend with a wife,me, a four year old son and a Senator California/Range Rover combo (I added the combo bit because I know some sites are 'funny' about TA vans)

By the way, I have no problem with distances or towing abroad, but some idea of transit times would be good.

Hi there, you dont say how much time you have for this trip but assuming you can find about 3 weeks (its hardly worth the ferry for less )you could make your way down to the med from Santander in about a day and half. I am sure there will be plenty of sites recomended by the group but some of my favourites are Camping Los Madriles at Puerto Mazarron in the Murcia area or Vilanova Park on the Costa Brava. Much closer to Santander would be South West France. St Jean de Luz is good and Camping Larrouleta near there is excellent. All of these are in the Caravan Club book "Camping Europe 1" which I wouldnt leave home without.

Regards Dave

Hi, I'd disagree that it's not worth the trip for two weeks, due to work commitments we've done this for the last few years and so long as you don't take too long travelling it's well worth the effort. We've stayed at Castell Montgri and El Delphin Verdi, both have good facilities and there is plenty to see in the area. Enjoy your trip.

Oops forgot to say we've always gone Dover - Calais, a long drive but it can easily be done in two days if you both drive. A friend of mine has travelled to Santander and it took them 14 hours to the med. Hope this helps.
