Hi,
We stayed there for one night last summer prior to coming home via the Tunnel. Large site which seems to attract a lot of people in a similar situation to me i.e. one night stay either before or after crossing the Channel. Very easy access to the Tunnel terminal so guessing it would be similar for the ferry. Pitches were large, we were escorted to our pitch, due to the size of the camp site I was quite pleased about that, otherwise I could have been going round in circles for ages. Numerous toilet blocks around which all seemed clean enough, the one next to us had seen better days decor wise but was o.k. Shop, pool and restaurant on site.
Don't think I would like to spend any great length of time there personally, but certainly o.k. for short term stay. Situated on the edge of the village next to a roundabout. I would suggest by passing the village to get to the site, some of the streets were a bit narrow for towing through in my opinion.

I would echo everything Rob-T has said really. We normally have 2 nights there at the end of our hols to wind down and go to the offy for some Britneys.
I have never really understood why Brits choose to have their hols there but some clearly do stay for the whole time. That's not to be judgemental because as sites go its as good as many other of the Castels sites wih the size not being too overbearing as its set out in nice areas.

I think people look at it for their first time towing to the continent because they are less confident travelling the distances. For me its a bit like going to look around Buckingham Palace and standing in the porch for the whole visit. Driving is such a doddle over there you won't regret venturing further afield if you can.
Either way I'm sure you'll have a lovely trip.

Have stayed there 6 or 7 times, description is pretty much as others have said, probably 20-25 minutes up to the Calais ferries from what I recall, a little less than that to the tunnel. Reasonable site actually, pleasant little pool complex too, but it does feel a bit transitory as people do seem to use it mainly for overnight pre or post ferry runs. And it can be very popular, at peak times it gets full and often has to turn people away who haven't booked.

As others have said avoid the centre of Guines, take the road that goes through St Tricat and Hames Boucres instead as it comes out on the roundabout next to the site. Sanitary facilities are OK, they have seats and paper, one block at least is heated and some are mixed sex.

Hi Francis,

You have obviously already booked this site so perhaps had done some homework before you did. As has been said it is a bit of a transit camp. The site is very well laid out and maintained. Large grass pitches. If you are going during the school holidays the site will be extremely busy. We usually stay there the first and last night of our stay of we are doing the Dover / Calais route, mainly as it has a covered pool so this can be used if the weather is not that good. We went in Whitsun and August last year and the site was full on both occasions. People staying for longer periods tend to be pitched separately so as not to be disturbed when others are taking early morning sailings!! i.e. 2, 3 and 4am in the mornings although this cannot always be avoided. Don't be fobbed off with the first pitch you are given if you are not happy with it - ask for a choice. You should aim for those towards the rear of the site commencing with letter X and around that area. Although we had previously thought we would like to spend a week there in low season, from our experiences last year we would not. It had the feel of an extended British Haven type site. It has a lot of mobile homes which some use for one night after travelling from south. A bit rowdy really. If you just travel a little but further you could try sites such as Ferme des Aulnes or Val d'Authie just passed Bologne or Chateau Drancourt by Abbeville - only an hour's drive from Calais.

We haven't been for a couple of years, preferring to stay at Gandspette nowadays. My biggest gripe about Bien Assise is filling the water. If it weren't that the taps are the silly push button variety, you would have time to go off and make a cup of tea while waiting for the water conatainer to fill (if you had any water that is!). Perhaps the pressure has improved a bit, but in many years of going to the site, we always found it very frustrating. However, we really liked the restaurant which is well used by the locals.

We stayed there for 2 nights at the end of our holiday last June using our ACSI card.
We were pitched near to the main road, that had the large dump trucks running between the quarry and the motorway that was under repair at the time. They started running about 04:30 so trying to sleep after that time was a waste of time (at least we did not have to rely on the alarm clock when leaving for the 07:00 ferry).
Because of the motorway repairs it took us nearly 45 mins to get to the ferry port

Hi would echo all comments above...we have stayed here several times to/from holidays further afield. Found site to be busy each time we have stayed but not too bad. Restaurant was OK but expensive for what it was....kids enjoyed the pool but found play facilities very crowded. Would be OK for a couple of days but would recommend Baie de Somme area for better sites and only 1hr from Calais/Tunnel
