Has anyone visited Camping le Thouet in Maine Loire, France. We're booked for a holiday in August for fishing and relaxation, But have recently read a less than complimentary write up, which may be out of date. If you have been there, please let us know about the toilet facilities, if the sit is well kept and clean and what the fishing is like. John

John, we are going to Camping le Thouet next weekend (Friday, in fact)and wonder what report you have read! Perhaps too late for us now, but we'd still be interested to hear. We'll let you know what we think when we get back

Hi Ruth. Report we read inferred site is an unkempt field but seemed to to have been written by someone who had only looked but not stayed and was written some time ago possibly 2003. The report has now been removed from the eclipse.com web site. We are used to rural, non commercial sites and hope we won't be disappointed this time. I'm looking forward to fishing! Hope you have a good time and look forward to a report when you get back. John.

John, we'll keep an eye out and let you know. By the way, if you manage to reply to this before 6pm on 10th June, what route will you be taking once you arrive in France - where from etc ?

Dear John, Got back home at about 1 am today and felt I should let you know our findings on Camping Le Thouet. I don't think you'll be at all disappointed - a beautiful part of the world, peaceful beyond anything I've ever known. About 5 and a half hours from Cherbourg with good stops enroute. The site itself is huge (about 20 acres), entirely secluded, by the river which, although we don't fish, was used by locals from time to time so it can't be bad. There were never any more than ten units on site at any time when we were there and all so well spaced out - very private. Toilet and other facilities were spotless though basic - it depends what you want from your site - these were perfectly adequate/servicable. Your hosts, Brian and Nadine are charming and most welcoming. Swimming pool, restaurant which serves fresh home-cooked food (several different dishes every day) and a bar all on site. You can order bread etc from Brian/Nadine and it will be there on site for you when you need it. Quite honestly, it's the first time that we've been away and completely relaxed within a couple of hours of "landing" - usually takes at least 36 hours. We sat outside most evenings with a drink until about 11pm listening to the cuckoo (no other noise at all), and it was still fairly light then!! The town of Montreuill-Bellay is beautiful and a visit to the chateau there, if you like that sort of thing, is a MUST. So much to do in the area but you know that you have that "little peace of heaven" to return to at the end of the day which makes it that bit more special. Met three or four retired couples who were "passing through" with the intention of staying perhaps one or two nights but, because of the seclusion and peace, decided to stay on - recommendation enough. You really have no interruptions and are encouraged to relax and make the most of your holiday. So, we will definitely be making another visit to Camping Le Thouet when we go over to France next year and hope that you find it as we did - we envy you. Have a great time and let us know how you get on.

Bon Voyage!

Ruth
