campsite in La Rochelle area

Looking for site near to La Rochelle for August 2011. Would like site to be near to cycle paths as we like to cycle everyday.Went to Loire Valley last year and found it perfect for the kids aged 12 and 10 nice and flat and near to the river. Would like site preferably to have pool with slides, but not bothered about too much entertainment

A few miles further south than La Rochelle but we have just returned from 2 weeks at Camping Bois Soleil in St Georges de Didonne very near to Royan. An excellent site with flat cycle tracks starting outside the campsite gates. A large, excellent, beach just a pedal turn away. The site has plenty going on during the season including a swimming pool complex which had just closed during our visit. A site and area I highly commend. Worth a look at their website.

I agree with Clubman. Bois Soleil is a very nice site. We have been there for the last 7 years. Providing you are going outside of the French holidays there won't be a problem getting a pitch. They also take Camping Cheques, although I am not sure what dates in August.

This year (2010) Bois Soleil took Camping Cheques from the 23rd August - and on that date the normal site tariff would have been 29 euros - so you could save up to 15 euros per night. On top of this would be the normal child supplements of 4 euros per child between 3 and 12, or 5 euros for over 12's.

We are going over on the 8th August, was going to get down about 10th.When do the french holidays end? Will it be the 13th, if so will take a slower journey down the coast, and arrive at above site 13/14th. Hopefully going to be over in France for 3 weeks, going back 1st September.

French holidays end around the weekend nearest to the 15th August. It starts to get a little bit quieter on a lot of sites after that time and even more so by the following weekend. By our end of August Bank Holiday some sites can be really quiet!! You can always pay 'normal' site rates for some of your days, and then start using Camping Cheques when the site starts to accept them - you just need to make this very clear when you arrive at reception. We've done it several times!
