Campsite in Luxembourg

Has anyone any experience of this site in Luxembourg? It is one of the two sites in the CC overseas magazine for Luxembourg.
It is quite a big site but their looks like a lot of things to do in the surrounding area. There will only be the two of us, so night time entertainment and things for children not really important for us. As long as we have a good size plot and clean facilities 🙂
We travel from Zeebrugge so it is probably about 5-6 hours drive.

We will be going abroad next year during the school holidays in July/Aug.

Thanks. 🙂

Graeme.

If you can go after 14th August, then this year (2010) Camping Birkelt accepted Camping Cheques, a saving of about 8 euros per night on the normal tariff of 22.50 euros on the 14th August. They also accepted 6 Camping Cheques for 7 nights - so saving even more. There's no guarantee it will be the same this year, but perhaps worth having a look when the new 2011 guide comes out.
We stayed there MANY years ago - but I couldn't tell you anything about it - it was in 1977 on a four week holiday which eventually took us to Prague in a hired motorhome - fabulous!

Whenever we go via Lux - or even tarry a while there as it is a pleasant place - we stay at the municipal site (which is run on behalf of the city by the Caravan and Camping Club of Luxembourg) at Kockelscheuer. Although it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some sites, in terms of facilities and cleanliness it has to be one of the best sites in Europe. There is a sports centre next door and the (regular) bus service is only about a 10min or so walk. The only down side is a distant drone of the motorway, and if the wind is in the wrong direction there are often aircraft taking off from Lux airport - and they are in the main cargo 747's - although they don't fly at night.
They do not take bookings, and the barrier is down (site effectively closed) 12:00-14:00 and 23:00-07:00 although there is always pedestrian access. Some limited English is spoken at the office. There is a small shop that seems to sell everything you may need plus superby bread in the morning, and a small take-away which is open each evening. Electricity is 16A and metered for anything over a one night stay.

Stayed at Camping grit a few years ago - very pleasant although the pitches were a bit small for a big outfit. Luxembourg used to have - may still have - the cheapest road fuel around - so worth filling up before you cross any borders.

Indeed it does - diesel €0.98/litre in mid September.

Germany and France prices are relatively high but you will find similar prices in Belgium around Arlon - its called competition.

Thank you for reminding us to go back to Larochette . we were there back in 1997? we had booked to stay their for 3 nights on our return from Italy. Alas it was the same time as Lady Di passed away, so we ended up their as only a night stop over so we could get back before the Funeral.

This is the second time that we're confronted with the same advertising. The reply does nothing to answer Cooky's original question and is therefore not helpful. Such action is starting to get me annoyed.
