Hi please can anyone help me find a campsite for the summer holidays. We would like to go to the area where the Rhine meets the Mosel but would take any suggestions in Germany.

We would like a campsite near some nice places to visit for us and the children, a campsite with a swimming pool would be a bonus.

Thanks for any help.

I have just looked in my ACSI camping card book do your have this? When are you going to Germany is another question?

There is a site at Lahnstein near where the 2 rivers meet named

Wolfsmuhle doesn't appear to be a web site address but email is info@camping-wolfsmuehle.de.

There is another near too which is on the Lahn name Lahn Beach, email at info@canutours.de

Another further down the Rhine at St Goar am Rhine, Friedenau 3 star. To look at these sites you can go on the Camping Card website at www.campingcard.com Out of season these sites will be under 15 euros per night if you have the card.

We stopped right on the side of the Rhine at St Goar at Lorelyblick very good, but it was very expensive though right on the Rhine.

Do not think you will find many swimming pool on sites in this areabeing near the river. But you cannot swim in the river it is too fast and dangerous.

Contact me if you need more help

May be Lutz knows of some others

I've not been to that site, but from the description I've found in the German ADAC guide it sounds quite nice, too. It's not too big - 220 touring pitches plus another 33 statics. The guide has it marked as being relatively quiet and picturesque, with comprehensive facilities. It doesn't take dogs, though.

I expect that you've realised that it's further upriver from where the Mosel joins the Rhine. Senheim, where it's located is one of the typical smaller wine towns along the river. However, if it doesn't take your fancy, there are lots more campsites in the area. The ADAC guide lists 25 along the Mosel in Germany alone.

Yes Simon that site does look very nice. It is near Cochem and if you have not ever been there it is a very nice little town on the Mosel which I think is much nicer area than the Rhine and not so commercialised or so many Brits. Touring the Mosel is lovely there are some beautiful little oldy worldy towns of which Bernkastel-Kues is the prettiest and well worth a visit.

We have been visiting there nearly every year for 30 years mostly to visit the Christmas Market in December. There is a caravan site on Kues side of the river called Kueser Werth which is very nice we have stopped there the one time we took the caravan.

Are you going to be there in June, July or August.

If you do not need to be on the River we go to a site at Oberweis, Nr Bitburg which has a lovely ,free, swimming pool and kids amuzements + a full sized football pitch the boys scan play on. web site www.pruemtal.de From here you can visit the Mosel and Luxemburg which is 20 mins. down the road and cheap for fuel. This site is on the Camping Card site. Just noticed anothersite on the Mosel with a swimming pool Pommern notfar off Cochem.

ps: This campsite only takes reservations for the period 1st July until 31st August. A reservation costs 16 Euros per pitch.

v.meldrew2 Lutz did say that there were 220 touring pitches so I think it is quite a large site I doubt if it is very full off seaason though. When were you thinking of going to this area?

If you are going Spring early Summer and you have the ACSI CC it is much cheaper
