Hello All,

We are hoping to go to Germany in Aug/Sept and was thinking of the Rhine valley and/or The Black Forest regions.

The campsite that we really like the look of is in the Rhine valley and is called Burg Lahneck, in the grounds of a castle overlooking the Rhine - has anyone been to this site, any views would be much appreciated?

We were also thinking of the campsites Kur & Feriencamping in Badenweiler and Buhlhof Campground in the Black forest - again, anyone been and any reviews would be most appreciated?

If you can recommend any other nice sites in these areas, that would be good?

Many thanks ( sorry for the essay )!

Best wishes,

Jonah.

Jonah, If you are going to Germanyin August September I would look into ACSI Camping Card sites for 15 euro's per night. We looked at one near to Rudersheim when we were there in April. We did not stop there as it was not doing the Card at that time.

Regards to the Black Forest we have been to Alisehof, Bad Ripoldsau, near to Wolfach 4 times it is an excellent 5 star site, excellent Showers and Toilets and very friendly and helpful owners. Situated in the centre of the Black Forest it is in an excellent situation to do the Black Forest. For details of this site and ACSI visit my website by putting this address into your address bar http://www.dvthompson.webs.com Title of site is Joys of Caravanning.

Good Evening Walt and Snooks,

Thankyou both so much for your replies, they are much appreciated.

We have just returned from the South of France and one of the sites we stayed at was Les Rivages in Milau, the guy on reception was saying to us that we should get a camping card ( ACSI ) as we could of got our pitch there, for 15 euros a night as oppose to 28 euros! We said then that we would have to look into that - so thankyou Snooks, will certainly look at your website.

Thanks again, best wishes,

Jonah.

Camping Belchenblick in Staufen just South of Frieburg is a nice site situated in the heart of the black forest although some of the pitches are a little tight! wonderful outdoor pool and quaint indoor one!, shop, bar and really good showers! and only a pleasant 10 minute stroll into Staufen village, worth noting is the fact that visitors to the area are given free access to all train and bus travel in the black forest area ( ask at reception for the form, where you will also get a form that gives you free visitor parking))

Jonah Did you get your ACSI Book and Card as I understand they are sold out of the English version. If you look Alisehof in the Black Forest and Geisenheim am Rhein at Geisenheim near to Rudesheim is also an ACSI CC Site out of season. Lorelyblick is very expensive we have stopped there once, nice, but very noisy with 2 roads,2 railways either side of River and River traffic. The other Black Forest site near Staufen, mentioned by someone, is not ACSI and not in the middle of the Black Forest. When do you leave for Germany?

Hello Dianne T,
Many thanks for your reply, the information that you gave is much appreciated.
We did try to get the ACSI card, but unfortunately it was sold out. More so unfortunate is that we have had a change of circumstances that will not allow us to go to Germany in Aug/Sept, we do however hope to be able to go in Nov/Dec and go to Rudesheim for the christmas markets, it all however, depends on getting respite for my dad who has got dementia.

Once again, thankyou for your reply, it is much appreciated.
Take care and best wishes,
Jonah.

Sorry to hear about cancellation of your trip in Aug/Sept. If you do go to Germany for the Christmas Markets I would suggest you go to Bernkastel on the Mosel. It is far far better and more traditional. The problem with Rudesheim is it is very commercialised and caters for the British Tourist Tea like Mother Makes and Fish and Chips.
Bernkastel is a good centre too for visiting other markets such as Cochem and the much larger Trier. Are you caravanning or staying in Hotel? If staying in Hotel you will not get better than the Moselbluechen, well established for generations of the same family. If you are interested go to my website and there are pictures of Bernkastel in the German Info page and also a link to this Hotel on the Links page. If you need any more info get Parksy to give you my email address or become a member of my site.

Hello Dianne T,

Many thanks for your reply. Thankyou for the info on the christmas markets, I will be looking into that. I would love to go to one. We were in Rudesheim in Aug 2008 and one of the shops we visited had christmas decorations in it then and I thought, how lovely it would be to attend a german christmas market.
I am assuming that if we get the chance to go, we will be going in our caravan, if not, we would possibly stay with my husbands brother who lives in Germany, although he does live in Herford, which is a fair way away from where the christmas markets are held, but we are used to travelling, so that would not be a problem.

You have a really good website!

Thanks again for your help and advice, it is very much appreciated.
Have a good weekend. Take care and best wishes,
Jonah.

Christmas markets are held throughout Germany. There will undoubtedly be one very close to Herford. I know there is one from the 22.11. until the 23.12. in Bielefeld which is not far away.

Just returned from trip around Slovenia, Austria, Germany. Site in Germany was close to Austrian border in southern Black Forest. Park is called Camping Hopfensee. Has excellent facilities - clean and spacious washrooms, nice bar/restaurant, football, indoor pool, lake with boating/swimming, indoor games (trampolines, football, table tennis, air hockey). Pitches ok, though not massive, and is quite a big site too. Area is interesting - nearby Fussen is very quaint, and the castle where they filmed Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a cycle ride away (Schloss Neuschwanstein).
Having said all that, go to Slovenia. It's wonderful.

Wow!!! At £30 low season and £33 high season a night for 2 people and a caravan it ought to be excellent and wifi at 2 Euro's per hours or 20 Euro's for 7 days is double we paid at sites in the Spring. Give us ACSI every time we would need a second mortgage to afford those prices. 15 euro's for a 5 star site sounds a lot better to me and wifi either free or 5.euro's an for 5 hours which can last at least 4 days depending how you use it.

There is a Christmas market in Herford and 1 in Gutersloh (which is where I live) The one in Gutersloh is normally for 2 weeks finishing on Christmas eve. The one in Bielefeld runs after Christmas day until the 30th Dec usually.
