Can anyone recommend some sites around Biscarosse, SW France?

Hi there,

We're looking to go down towards Biscarosse/Mimizam in South West France next year and would like any recommendations of decent sites down that way. Ideally near the coast, kids clubs would be ideal, what's more important is to find a good site with excellent facilities (swimming pool, bar, restaurant etc) that is friendly and welcoming.

Brian, this is our favorite area of France and we have been there 6 or 7 times since 1989. A site we like a lot is La Mayotte {www.mayottevacances.com] which has all the things you want plus has it's own beach on the lake. There are several similar sites and inputting "Biscarosse camping" into google and you will be spoilt for choice.

If you wish to travel a little further south then I can recommend La Col Vert at Lac Leon which is a great site [www.colvert.com].

Thanks for your comments Ray. You're right there are loads on google, its just finding the right one for us - I always think personal recommendations are really helpful. I'll check this one out - as for going further south - not sure really as I'm new to caravanning so hoping to get a few UK miles under my belt first before we venture that far south in France. thanks again

Brian, You should have no problems as a 1st timer in getting to and from the Landes area safely. I recommend that you seriously do not consider doing it in a single stage and that you stop of somewhere on the way. Futuroscope near Poitiers is great for the family and would be as far as you could reasonably expect to get in one hop especially with kids in the car.

We stayed at a good site this year which was not quite so far south as Biscarosse. It was Fonteinne Ville at Andernos les Baines which is on Bassin d'Archachon.

I hope you bite the bullet and go for it as Gironde and Landes are great places for family holidays.

I've seen other posts here recommending Domain de La Rive and with children that would be our 1st choice. Great site and pool complex and more than plenty to entertain children. The site is on the side of very shallow man made lake with sandy beaches where you can hire boats, pedalos etc and swim in relative safety.

Coastal beaches are not to far off but the Atlantic seas can be intimidating for some.

From Dunkerque it's about 600 miles, a part way stopover and visit to Futuroscope is sound advice.
