Can I stop using leisure battery?

My caravan is hooked up to mains electricity when in use i.e. never used on battery alone.

My leisure battery needs to be replaced.

I wonder if I can avoid the need for a new battery by replacing it with some sort of 240V AC/ 12VDC adapter plugged into the mains and connected somehow to the 12V circuit to run the lights, pump, fridge, All large items - TV, Radiator, Microwave... are run off the mains.

Not too well up on the electrics and do not know if this is possible/advisable/safe and what adaptor to get e.g. no. of AMPS needed if that is the right terminology.

Any help/advice is very much appreciated.

You don't say what make your van is. Most chargers will operate without the battery giving a 12volt current throughout the vsn so you shouldn't need to have a battery.

Disconnect the battery and turn on the charger. If the lights work then you don't have a problem. If they don't then you need a battery.

I would think that you would need to insulate your battery terminals, otherwise you could end up with a ball of flames.

It's an old (1992) Lunar Moonlight.

Does this mean that I just remove the battery and all will be fine (apart from the potential fire if I don't insulate the terminals as the other contributor mentioned).

if you do need some sort of 240v to 12 power supply, i would look at the ones on the cb radio part of ebay they have some there with some big amps.

I Work in the CB trade and we do 4 to 40amp supplies.
