I believe that Calor allow you to swap any cylinder for any other type of cylinder - is that your experience?

I currently run with a pair of 4.5kg Butane cylinders but would like to consider changing to a pair of 6kg Calor Lite Propane cylinders and changing my pigtails accordingly.

This will save me some noseweight and also allow me to run my gas in the depths of winter.

Anybody care to comment or share their experiences, good or bad !!

Stuart,

This will not be a problem as most caravan front lockers are designed to hold the 6kg/7kg Bottles. I agree with you about the noseweight issue, but I only use the Calorlite when I go abroad as most of the rallies I attend are relatively local and at this moment I am using a 13kg Propane, which sits outside the front locker,

best regards, Martin

I use 2 Camping Gaz cylinders most of the time but this time last year I bought a Calor light because it was very cold and I wanted the Propane

It was a good choice as that night it was -7C

No problems

Yes we didi it.

phone the supplier first, each outlet will have there own conditions.

We incured no extra costs.

Advantage as you say lighter nose weight.

Also weigh the new cylinder for a "full cylinder weight",not realy possible with the old cast type.

We replaced the 4.5kg with a 6kg, did'nt actually save on weight, but now have more available gas, for about the same weight.

Weight saving comes with replacing 2x4.5 with 1x6kg

Ray has just answered the question I was pondering. How would increasing the gas volume save weight given that the Lite cylinders are only 40% lighter. Seemed a little bit of 'up ladders adn down snakes' to me.

The quickest way to cut weight is to discard 1 cylinder.

My local caravan dealer/accessory shop allowed me to swop my two 4.5 butane for the new Calor Lite. Regards the weight of the cylinders it works out just about the same weight you are carrying two but you have 12kg of fuel instead of 9 kg.

4.5 kg Butane weighs 10.5 kg full and the new 6kg Calor Lite weigh approx the same.

Ray, Rob & Others,

Thanks for the comments guys the main bit I wanted to know is whether at least some dealers are prepared to exchange Butane for Calor-Lite.

I am less interested in the weight saving and more interested in the increased volume as a part of the plan is to also install a Gaslow manual changeover system with a gauge and new pigtails. Less trouble when a bottle runs out at midnight!!

The other key benefit I am looking at is the ability to use propane all year round - had some difficulty in the colder weather getting the butane to boil off one of my bottles, so could only use that one during the daytime :-(

If you go to gaslow you can get screw on propane connectors for your exising butane clip on connector you then have connection pigtails for both gases
