Caravan Alarm!!!

Excuse me if this is posted on the wrong thread but yesterday we collected our 'van following the 1st service. We informed the company that the alarm was causing problems and they said they would test it. They tried it (leaving it on for up to one hour) and it didn't go off! It is proving to be temperamental.

However, we found today that after being 'set' for about 24 hours off it went again. Thank goodness it was around lunchtime and not in the middle of the night!

Has any other forum member had this problem and how was it resolved?

Thanks in advance for any response.

Ann,

What is the make, model and year of your caravan and if possible the make of your alarm system?

If it is a recent Swift group caravan with a Sargent alarm I may be able to help.

Hi Hamer

Sorry for the delay in replying.

The caravan is a 2007 model Compass Rallye 482. The alarm is an Auto Watch. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks again.

Ann,

Our alarm is a Sargent alarm on our 2007 Swift Conqueror. Our alarm was doing the same as yours. I rang the alarm company on the advice of my dealer and they had a technical person who talked me through sorting out the problem over the phone. This involved switching of the alarm, waiting 2 minutes, switching it back on and pressing a reset button. This worked for a couple of weeks and then the same problem reappeared. They sent me a complete new alarm system which works fine. Does your alarm have a tilt mechanism and if so is the lever in the central position and the caravan level when setting it?.

I would try the advice given by Sargents, even though yours is a different alarm, and if no luck in solving the problem I would give Auto Watch a phone call.

We had a problem with our 2005 Lunar delta. For no apparent reason the alarm went of at the storage and wouldnt reset its self, just continued. We checked the van and could find no apparent reason . I checked the whole system including the PIR sensor but again no luck.

Eventualy the cause was traced to a frog which had got in the van with the waste container and its movement was setting of the alarm. Simmilair a mouse or evan a moth can trigger alarms.

I can't say about caravan alarms, but after years of fitting car alarms the reason for most false triggering was usually.

1.Failing battery. (Dead cell causing sudden voltage drop)

2. Poor positive or negative connection (Causing high resistance and consequently a voltage drop.)

These types of unit are very sensitive to variable voltage.

In addition to the other advice, check the position of the PIR and see if it can possible catch the sun through a window or reflection at some time of day. Some may also be sensitive to a butterfly or moth which may have got trapped in the van during the long hot days of summer (remember ?) and hide away in the curtain when you are in the van.

I've had false alarms from both these.
