I was speaking to a newbie to caravaning last night and saying we were going to plan our first trip abroad. She said that in France they insist on you having a certificate to show that your caravan has been serviced and is road worthy. Is this correct? My husband services our van ie making sure the tyres and brakes are OK, someone looks at the gas etc. Can anyone help please.

It is not correct. There is no legal requirement to have an MOT for the caravan and therefore not a document that you need to have with you. The French Police , as do the UK ones, have the right to issue a prohibition notice if the vehicle is, in their opinion, unroadworthy. This is very unlikely unless there is something that is so glaring that it comes to their atttention.
With regards to servicing it is not even a requirement that a car must have been serviced, either by a manufacturers agent or otherwise. It must of course be roadworthy and have an MOT certificate if applicable.

Linda...It is a good idea to take a copy of your caravan CRIS registration certificate with you which may help to prove ownership in the event of a problem or Theft of the van, but it is not a legal requirement.
I also always carry my caravan insurance documents along with insurance and vehicle documents (copies) of the tow car.
