A couple of general enquiries.
I am cleaning the roof of my Abbey Impression 520L with a special caravan cleaning brush that takes a hose. There is a lot of algae, bird s&*t and tree resin which is quite persistent. Is there a special cleaner for this?
Also I have black streaks where the rainwater has drained down the black door window seals and light fittings, what is the best stuff to remove this with?
Do I polish it with something like car wax?
And lastly I have been told by several caravaners not to put a cover over the van through the winter as when the wind blows it flaps and dulls (scratches) the windows. Is this true as I live close to the seaside and it would save me a lot of hassle in cleaning. If it is wise to get one then which is the best?
regards

Hi Badgerballs..(nice name..lol

)
When I clean our roof,I also use the extending brush with plenty of hot soapy water (same shampoo as i use on the car)then swill it off with the hosepipe,(obviously, not too much pressure).
I dont actually connect the hosepipe to the brush as I found on my other brush, the plastic connection broke.
As for the black streaks,I also use the Car shampoo and swill it off.
I then use a "shammy"to dry it,and apply a coat of Autoglym car polish.
I also make sure i open all the windows after to clean around the surrounds with a soapy cloth and dry and polish here too.
Im not sure if caravan covers are any good, but personally,I wouldnt use one.
Hope this helps, and if your bored this weekend, can you come round and do mine please?.....

Any good caravan cleaner used as per directions will get rid of black streaks, for the roof of our caravan when it was stored outside I used Muc Off Caravan Cleaner which is available from caravan accessory shops or online.
Wet the roof, spray the Muc Off over the area then after a minute or so agitate it with the brush.
Some caravanners who use covers cover their windows with cloths to prevent scratching before using the cover. Make sure that the straps are on tight to minimise the movement of the cover against the caravan paintwork in the wind.

Roof cleaning
I have two lengths of rope I put long ways over the van, tie each end to the ankles of the wife (Pat) and she has a soapy cloth in her hand, I pull both ends of rope from the other end of the van till Pat has cleaned all the roof, to do the under side of van I reverse it over Pat slowly.

Hi, I think you would find it much the easyest and cheapest way to-do the roof and the rest of the caravan without killing your self or the wife, use a pump up garden spray, let it soak for a bit ,then rub it with the brush and just let the fenwicks to do the job it's magic.

No! No! No! Cling film is known to react with the plastic on the windows and mark them. Absolutely do not do this,
