Caravan Club credit card vouchers

I have just cancelled my card as I had found it so difficult to use my vouchers. I do not like booking months ahead but it is increasingly obvious that this is the only sure way of getting a reasonable spell away (7 day plus). I have written to the club expressing my concern with regards the pre-booking system, their response has been that they feel that the "first come first served" allocation is the fairest system. They said that they are aware that people book for the weekends as soon as the service opens in December and that further telephone bookings are made as soon as the site opens in the season.

The upshot is that people who do not plan through the season stand very little chance of getting a pitch over a weekend period.

I am seriously thinking of opting out of the club.

I don't think I would be quite so miffed if I didn't see so many sites with the sign 'non members welcome'. What is the point of being a member if you cannot get on because of all those who cannot be bothered to join?

It is possibly just about acceptable if you live in the area to be turned away, but if you have travelled a long way, it is not much fun to be kicked out over the weekend just so Mr and Mrs Local can have a ball, as they usually do. In November I have no idea what I am going to do on a certain weekend the following June/July.

So maybe another rule... no booking of sites within 100 miles of your address on weekends in high season.

The idea of the CC is to allow people to visit other areas and mingle etc. Not to allow a cheap getaway for a bunch of selfish so and so's

Non members being able to use sites is usualy a local council condition. What I think is wrong is when non members can book in advance, advance booking should be open to members only.

The CC do not charge a deposit so even if they tell you they are full i bet they ain't .. Lots of people book 3/4 sites for every weekend then decide which one to use on that weekend .. Hence why late bookers cannot get on .. I think its time those that do not ring and cancel If there membership number was taken it should be be noted in head office and action taken where needed

The C&CC take a 25% deposit that way you ring n cancel so as not to lose your deposit

The problem with the CC and overbooking is down to members pre booking weeks & weekends which they dont take up due to poor weather etc etc . The answer is simple but for some reason the CC are not willing to impliment [Charge a booking fee of

I must admit I was one of those who were pleased with not having to pay a deposit but now think it's a bad move.

Even if it's not possible to book multiple sites for the same date it's still possible not to turn up because of the weather with no cost to oneself.

Like Scotch Lad, I too think it is all wrong that non members can be shown preference. Non members should only be able to book a pitch one week before they intend to go.

Bring back the deposit and don't let non-members book pitches until one week before they intend to travel giving members priority.

I think a perk of being a member, is a reduced rate that non members don't get???
