I have just received my copy of the Caravan Club sites directory and handbook for 2007/08 today. I think it is excellent with a much improved layout and what an improvement over the old drab directory.

I think they agreed a funding deal with Mitsubishi to keep members costs down. Well done the Caravan Club.

What do others think?

I've seen moans here and on another site about the CC magazine and the clubs annual charge.

The Directory and map landed yesterday and very good to. Can't see what anyone has to moan about re the annual cost when you see what you get and is on offer to you.

We also received our new CC sites directory yesterday. Unfortunately, we don't know how long it will retain all its sheets --- on first opening it 2 sheets fell out!!!

Yes Ann, I quite agree - a couple of pages fell out of ours too. I don't know how it will stand up to two years worth of scribbly alongside the entries, marks and notes which I make and all the thumbing through we do. I never leave the house without it just in case I spot a CL I might like. The paper quality is much more inferior that previous copies.

The thing that strikes me is how quickly the number of CL's is dropping away. The book gets thinner & each CL is given more space.

It is very sad as they are our preferred locations.

I do like the style of the new directory with the colour pages, certainly not as drab as the old one. I must admit though my first thoughts on opening it were how flimsy it felt. Like others i'm not sure if it will last the full two years. These days I don't tend to use it that much as I do most of my reserch on the CC web site.

Have the CC changed their system of putting CL.s under the town they deem to be nearest. Here in the South West we get the situation where a site that is geographically in Cornwall gets put under a town in Devon (and vice versa). Makes life hard trying to find sites

I'm just being nosey. My copy hasn't arrived yet!!!

Nice layout and all, but I prefer the way the prices were displayed in the previous edition, now you can hardly read them they that small. I also found that when checking on CLs the print in the previous edition was darker making it easier to read. Otherwise okay.

Overall an excellent "package" that makes planning those long w/e's away a real pleasure.

We do not go far because we have a disabled relative that we look after and so being able to use reasonably local CL's where we can *** home in an emergency. Thus caravanning for us means that we can get away for a break without abdicating our responsibilities.

We only bought a caravan to do this and thought we would miss our holidays abroad! - Err! No - we are now planning a future where when the inevitable sadly happens, we plan to tour France, Spain & Portugal.

After that - who knows!

But for now - those little red dots on the map represent rest and relaxation and the book the directions.

I think it works well and the CC represents truly excellent value.
