Hi there following on from a question I asked regarding Chester Fairoaks and Low Park Wood CC sites, I am new to caravanning with a wife and 2 young children and obviously we are still finding our feet, I was wondering what caravan club sites are like and what they offer, also how they generaly compare to a graded 4 or 5 star site or best of british site, I've seen quite alot of people comment about CC saying eg: "site upto usual CC standards etc" but never stayed at one I'm not sure what to expect, I'm also not a member yet as Ive only used the caravan a couple of times so far over the past year with a couple of breaks to look forwrd too this August one at Castlerigg hall, Keswick and the other at Ord House, Berwick. Any comments or advice appreciated, Many Thanks Andrew

Andrew, Several years ago my sister in law suggested that we joined them in our campervan at that time at a CC site for the weekend. Until then we had only used 'hand picked' commercial sites which we considered to be 4 or 5 star. From the moment we arrived we were very impressed and joined the CC at the site, we find that every CC site we visit is to a very high standard of cleanliness with heated showerblocks and other good facilities. Now we are caravanners, we have a disabled son and always find these facilities very good also. I suggest that you visit and stay on a CC site as a non-member initially and see for yourself the general situation. Some people consider that some 'petty rules' spoil these sites but in y opinion these rules are for the benefit of all users. Good luck, Tony

I have been a member of the CC for 4 years, and have never used a Club site. Mainly because by the time I've added everything up, 2 adults, 2 kids, pitch etc, for say, Rowntree Park, it cost around

hi

Am new too but have been to a park resort site and am in the CC so been to a few of theirs! The CC sites I,ve been to have been excellent, its just a different level of service altogether, much more personal, wardens have always been helpful(and patient!)I was wary about joining the CC with having two little ones, old image of older retired, sorry "snobby" people looking down on us! .How wrong was I, have never had a prob! HAVE to go to Haven in Cornwall, cant wait for cornwall am wary about the site, but that will be the last time and it will only be CC sites from then on !Value for money especially with kids is second to none,!!!Please note I am talking about the very large commercial sites now! There are I'm sure lots of excellent private run commercial sites! Stick on here and go with word of mouth!!

I think they're as good but different. The commercial sites tend to have more to do whereas the CC sites have clean toilets etc.

Tina, We went to Haven in Corwall in the Whit week. There's lots of statics but the complex is built to match. There's teenage clubs, four bar etc. We didn't use any of them and the touring pitches are far enough away from the complex for them to not bother you. You'll have a great time and the beach is great.

Generally we find that club sites are less crowded especially at weekends in summer. Club sites are always imaculate but hardstanding may be on gravel- have steel pegs and big hammer for the awning. You mention Chester Fairoaks, and we use this one in the winter. Good site and in walking distance of a big shopping complex.

I personally think that the huge choice you get with 5 star quality parks is far better than CC sites.

On these highest grade parks, you will always find modern spotless toilets & showers (after all, the English / Welsh / Scottish Tourist Boards are VERY KEEN on this particular area, and I can vouch from experience!).

No only that, but you will be spoilt for choice as regards to being able to select a small quiet park, hidden in the countryside, to larger parks with multi-facilities and entertainment for all the family.

To be assured of the highest quaility, I can recommend the Best Of British group of parks, all 5 star quality, located throughout the UK. Visit their website - www.bob.org.uk

Good luck in finding your ideal park!

Hi All

Before I get hung drawn and quartered by the lynching mob this is just my personal take on sites.

My wife and I avoid the sites that boast entertainment (Disco's, cabaret, caf

Hi Martyn,

Thanks for the reply about CC sites Vs Other parks.....

I can confirm I too am not too keen (diplomatic speak) on such parks that you mention!

As I am sure you already know, Best of British parks in another class altogether - situated in beautiful surroundings, and most importantly, are mananaged by the park owners themselves. This means you will always have excellent customer service as at the end of the day, any problems reflect on their own business. i.e. a courteous, polite park owner = a delighted holiday makers = succesful business!

To back my case that I beleive that privately owned parks are better than CC sites, is to take a look at Practical Caravan Top 100 issue.......you will find the vast majority of Award winning parks are, like mine, not CC owned.

At the end of the day, we are blessed than in this little country of ours, we have such a huge choice of all different types Parks to visit.

Love and peace to all,

Andrew, I think as you have found by the different replies, its all a matter of taste. If you want a quite good run and clean site, then you can't do better than CC. If you need Bars, Clubs Discos and Swimming pools on site then CC is not for you. Loads of families use the sites because it helps children find their own amusment without costing the earth. Just make sure the site you fancy has what you want.

We are members of CC. However my three favourite sites are not CC - Limefitt (Lake Distict), Glen Nevis (Fort William)and Fforest Fields (Mid Wales). We are not seeking out sites with entertainment, but enjoy a beautiful location and a bit of peace and quiet and these fit the bill perfectly in all respects!
