I have beeen caravaning for ages but only ever been to Private sites. With all the info on this site about Caravan Club sites I now conceed it is time I went to one to find out what I am missing. I will join the club before so as not to be limited to sites which accept non members. So where in the North West do I start?????

Over to you

I agree with Mark. Try the website suggested. However, I wouldn't bother joining the 'friendly club'. We've had nothing but back luck after rejoining, after a couple of years out! They don't seem to have moved on at all, in fact I would say they have gone backwards - very difficult when money is being poured into the specific club!!! The Caravan Club is definitely the one for us!

Have a grand time touring!

Thanks for the advise but what I was really after was someone to give me their personal opinion of sites they have visited. No disrespect but the website is hardly going to give a truly honest report.

Hi Graham,

We have only had our van since June and sofar we have only been on 5 member CL sites for Caravan Club members only.

unfortunately there is no proper forum for listing our views, although www.ukcampsite.co.uk does have a site recommendation forum which you might find useful. I might be wrong but some people, who visit these sites on a regular basis, might not be too willing to recommend top notch places in case they themselves find it hard to get on, once word gets about that is.

So far we have been on 6 sites in Cheshire/Shropshire/North Wales. In the CC members handbook, each site in the handbook states what facilities they have. Please see my posting further on about the most recent site we stayed at in Church Stretton. It has been the best so far.

Good luck.

Hi, We,ve been members for 3 years and have visited about 15 club sites and some cls all over Britain. The toilets are always clean , the grounds are always tidy , there is always plenty of room between vans (except at Henley-on-thames) and 99 times out of 100 its quiet after 11pm, most have swing parks for the little ones and the shops usually sell the basics.Trewithet farm in Cornwall and Bunree in the western highlands of Scotland have views to die for.

Hi Graham

Don,t know whereabouts you are in the north west but if feasible try Lady Margaret's park at Chirk. It is typical of caravan club sites and is handy for Llangollen, which has the river, rail trips and the canal, and lovely walks in the area generally.

Hi Graham,

Definately join the Caravan Club. We have been members for donkeys years and have nothing put praise. The facilites are always good (not that we use them, but I always put my head in the door!) Nearly all have childrens' play areas, and never have any quibbles about dogs and can only speak postively about the wardens.

In saying that we are also members of the C&CC club, not quite as long though. Again cannot speak highly enough, we have never had any bad experiences with either clubs. My advice is, join both. We never use municiple sites for the simple reason you never know what you are in for, unless of course it comes highly recommended, or you have been before.

Well it seems that I might be gatecrashing a "We love the Caravan Clubs sites" forum..... but here goes.......

There is more to life than just the Caravan Club sites.

If you want top quality facilities, friendly & welcoming Park staff, magnificent settings, why not try the Best Of British member parks? Over 45 parks that are ALL independantly graded 5 Star Quaility - visit the website where you can find more info. www.bob.org.uk

Better still, have a look at my Park (well....I had to plug it!).

Happy holidays wherever you go,

Club sites are great, you get the same standard no matter where you go and you don't have to pay extra for awnings and pup tents and a levy for bank holidays etc.

After the relative luxury of Private Sites, Pool, Sauna, Steam Room Jacuzzi, Gym. I am already filled with trepidation about Caravan Club Sites> I am no where near ready for CL's.

Your park dos look good.

The thing is I been on ten private park only one of the I would go back to the rest I would not has they were not run they well and I been to 20 Caravan sites in which all of were run very good and I would go back to them all.

So you can see how I have been put of Private sits. The last think you won't is when you're a way is to have a bad site other wise it sores it for you.

In case you are wondering the private which was run very well and I been there 2 time sin I stared caravan and I have been caravan now for 1 year & 3 mouth.

The name

Lickpenny in Matlock.

Being from Southport do you use the Caravan Club site there much??? (serious question not Taking the P)

I think the shortlist is between Park Coppice and Chirk, not that I have anything against Southport but being from Standish its a bit near, I could come home for me tea!!

Have you changed jobs or just shift pattern???. Thanks for the stone wall comment me thinks a dry run without the caravan might be in order. At 8 metres long it can be a bit of a beast

Hi Graham

No dont worry, we are novices remember and our van is 17ft,we survived so am sure you will do fine,it is worth it !!

Southport I believe is very nice and clean but no park for the kids, but right next door is a huge park with playgroun etc... right on the beach, morrisons 2min walk over the road, fair swimming pool etc...great for a summer weekend for the kids !!!The fair does a special halloween/bonfire night, cheap wristbands etc..fancy dress, just gets a bit cold for little uns !! As regards my job, after years of bieng a relief(no comments) I have finally got a regular, permanent shift pattern, two long weekends off in four so I can finally plan my life (and more important...HOLIDAYS)!!! Stopped on 'late night arrivals' at the Morn Hill Caravan Club site near Winchester on our way home from France. The facilities there are decidedly tired and ready for refurbishment.

OK Graham!

We have visited many CC sites over the years, throughout the country, and can honestly say that ALL have been excellent. You always receive a friendly welcome and have never been to a site where the facilities have been nothing but well kept. The amenities are very clean.

We particularly like Cirencester Park, especially if you like walking. Cirencester can be reached by walking through the park which is delightful whatever time of year you visit.

We also at Ashbourne CC in Derbyshire.

Blackmore (close to the Malverns) is another site we like, but it was being upgraded last time we visited.

There are many, many more, far too many to list here. Join the Club and get the literature. Your subscription will be money well spent I can assure you.

Hi Tina , We have a twin axle and a lot of the pitches are quite short plus the fact we were there just after the regatta weekend and it was mobbed , there were units squeezed in everywhere. If you can, get a pitch near the back of the site as the road noise is horrendous from 7am until after 11pm. The only redeeming factor of this site is its proximity to Legoland and if it wasnt for that I wouldnt go back, its hardly the most relaxing of sites, the shop doesnt sell newspapers or milk either.
