I am new to this caravan game... so help me please as I pick my new caravan up next month and would love to be prepared!

When leaving my new caravan in storage, should I get cover.

Am thinking:

Where do I store it when I don't need it?

Do you clean it before you take it off cos is got birdy poop (etc) all over it?

Do you store the cover uncleaned?

Is it easier NOT to put a cover on it and then clean the caravan?

Anyone... any thoughts?

Cheers!

Hi Bj,

Personally, I use a cover for a number of reasons.

I store my caravan in a barn during the winter and before I used a cover the bird muck marked the paintwork and the cleaning in the spring was a complete pain in the proverbial.

During the summer, I can't store my van at home and to reduce cost, I have outside storage. Despite layers of polish etc... the colour did dull slightly so I chose a cover that protected from UV.

I went to this effort just to try and get a little more for it when I sell my van - every little helps (my Scottish heritage!!)

With regard to cleaning the cover, I don't really bother. I tend to use a cloth to wipe the worst of the bird muck off but all I do is remove it and fold it away in the bag that came with it.

I bought a good value cover that didn't cost the earth so if I can get

Hi there, we are also new to this, i asked almost the same question last year, was advised not too unless under trees etc, so i took the advice. Wish we had now having we have had some wet inside a cupboard at the side of the caravan that gets the worst of the weather.

Hello,

We use a cover and no, they are not hard to get on once you get the hang of it. We hook it under the front bits and then we have a broom handle each and walk it along the length of the van, then pull it down, voila!

I would have thought that signifies some more

serious problem which needs looking into, cover or no cover. I imagine

some mastic sealing on the joints probably wants replacing.

Hi BJ

Like Big H we store indoors in a Barn, but last year found each time we got the Van out it needed bird muck and farm yard dust washing off so we covered it.

If stored outdoors there must be even more benefit, not least keeping the sun from dulling the paint and bleaching the colours.

It seemed a bit excessive at first, but we put the van away in October cleaned and polished and on the two occasions it's been out this spring it was spotless.

I struggle a bit putting the cover on as the van is 8m and at 4ft 6" the wife was not made for this function but I do like the idea of the Broom handles suggested by big h, I can see that working well.
