Hi all

The time is getting nearer that i sadly have to bed my van down for the winter :(

Question is... to cover or not to cover?

I was planning on leaving uncovered and apply fenwicks winter protector after a good wash down, but a few people on the place i store my van have started using covers for the whole van.

What does everyone else do?

I don't cover, no need at my storage site. However, if the van was under trees I may consider a roof-only cover to stop all the birds' mess (assuming there's no leaves left on the tree). ;)

I was going to ask about roof covers. I have put one on my van about a month ago because the neighbour has a nasty conifer ( Christmas tree ) that sheds its sap and needles everywhere. Its a waterproof cover and I was worried about condensation under the cover.

Condensation is only a problem if the caravan is not ventilated correctly. A cover just on the roof should not be a problem with that but would need firm anchoring to stop the wind getting under it.

Hi all, I have been looking at one for our van as the roof does get filthy in storage, Maypole make a breathable version but I have the Status directional TV aerial on top. Would a cover do more harm than good or is a suitable alternative available?

Caravans are designed to be outside and well ventilated. I think your cleaning plan is the best way forward, whether lots of people say never had a scratch or condensation problems with their covers would you want to risk being the one who does have problems? What a shame you're packing up for the winter you're missing out on so much. Don't bother with water traps either by the way, all you're doing is attracting more moisture in through the vents.

We keep our van under cover in storage all year round, when not out in it, but unless you have a tree sap problem , or a big bird roosting problem, why cover the van, they are supposed to be leak proof.
We dont have a season as we caravan all year round. Great to wake up to a snowfall and take the dogs out for a romp. And a good walk to the pub.

We put ours to bed outside, so we use a four zip, elasticated, breathable cover. Never had any scratches or condensation problems. We leave a couple of windows open a crack for more air movement. The cover is also strapped to the van along its length. We always put it away on a dry day, so the van goes under the cover dry.
