Caravan Covers! A Must Or Keep Well Away?

I am after a green caravan cover for my 590 charisma, but heard reports that covers rub on the corners of the van in the wind and damage the paintwork, do they allow the van to "breathe" preventing dampness? Nevertheless i would like to purchase a good quality cover. Any reccomendations of manufacturers or should i really stay clear of a cover for my new van.

we had a cover for about 3 years ,when we took it off the caravan was clean ,but as normal it allways rains in this country and when we reached our destination the caravan was filthy and didnt look any different from the others ,so we sold the cover and washed the caravan when we reached the site

I am on my 2nd cover (new van) and feel they do a good job. They do breathe and I have not had any problems to date with scratching as long as the van is clean and dry before you put the cover on. One advantage I felt from using it, is that I can keep the blinds up and it prevents people seeing inside the van and possibly becoming 'lightfingered'. It is certainly beneficial if your van is parked near trees.

hi chris we have used a cover on our van and have not had any problems with it krrps nice and clean particlary as it is stored near trees with all the bird dropings etc regards peter

I use a cover on a Pastiche 520/4 to protect against leaves and general grime when at home. It also makes the van far less conspicuous against our woodland background and certainly allows the van to breathe.

The advice we had was to fit the cover from and end of the caravan - usually the front - but last time tried it from the side and found it much easier, particularly when working from the upwind side as the wind tended to hold the half fitted cover in place while we were moving round.

We remove the top of the Truma heater outlet which has very sharp edges - the Status is already off - and tape bits of foam rubber over the sharp ends of the gutter over the front facing windows and a transverse trim strip at the rear of the roof. We use two soft brooms to lift the corners of the cover from inside and "walk" it as far over the roof as we can. The door opening is left unfastened to give a little more slack.

Covers are much good if you use your caravan constantly and through the winter. Why only use it for 6 months of the year when you can caravan all year.
