Caravan damaged

During the strong winds this morning, my next door neighbours garage roof blew off completely and has damaged the upper front panel of my Bailey Ranger.

There is a hole the size of a tennis ball and also numerous deep gouges. My caravan is a 2005 model and of course insured but any ideas how it can be repaired? new front panel? how much will that cost? looks like I may have to cancel this summer holiday. Any comments will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Andrew

During servicing the service people noticed one of my alko suspension unit's rubber was a bit worn (proabably driven over a bump they said). While not bad enough to be any danger, they said it woiuld probably deteriorate and have to be done sometime. They then said the whole axle, suspension units and hubs are intrgral (Haynes manual seems to indicate this is correct) and repalcement with labour would be about

Hello Andrew,

Firstly sorry to read of the damage to your caravan, but I also feel for your next door neighbour.

With regard to repairs, the cost should be shouldered by your neighbour sand their insurance, that is why they have buildings cover, though sadly it probably means you have to claim through your own insurers first.

It is not realistically possible for anyone on the forum to estimate the cost of the repairs as the work it needs to be properly assessed. This should be done through a recognised caravan repair centre. If you loose out on your planned holiday because the caravan is indisposed, then again any loss you incur (booking, ferry fees etc) may be recoverable from your neighbours insurance. You should seek professional advice.

Hello David,

I assume you want to protect your caravan from further damage, then it would be unwise to skimp on repairs to the suspension, after all this plays a major safety role when towing.

I suspect there are only a limited number of workshops set up and approved to carry out chassis repairs. This will limit the scope of any savings, unless you wish to tackle the job your self. I am sure there are specialist jigs and gauges required to ensure the units are properly aligned. Poor alignment will adversely affect the stability of your outfit, and produce more tyre wear.
