Our caravan was on site over the weekend near to Pershore in Worcs. and the entire site was flooded. The water has completely destroyed all of the static caravans and has entered all but three of the tourers. The site is like a war zone now with mud and rubbish everywhere. We went back yesterday and salvaged what we could from our caravan, which has had about four inches of water in it. Unfortunately we went out at lunchtime on Friday and couldn't get back to the site with the traffic, weather etc, so we made our way home in the end. We have contacted the insurance company and the lady on the phone has told us that the asessor will contact us in due course, so we're keeping our fingers crossed that our insurance will put things right in the end. We only had the caravan in March as well, the first new one that we'd ever had. I suppose we,re luckier than some who,ve lost everything anyway, at least we have a home to go to. If we have any questions regarding the insurance etc. I hope that the good people on this forum will give us advice because there is sure to be someone who has experienced similar situations, or worse.

Im really sorry to hear of your damaged van,What sort of policy do you have and who with,I suggest you get loads of photos of the damage,as it maybe a while before the assessor can get to you.Start to make a list of all the items that are damaged look inside all cupboards and photogragh under the beds,if your seating is still dry I suggest you remove it to keep it damp free just incase they repair the van instead of writing it off.

I hope things go well for you.

all the best allen

Thank you for your kind thoughts and advice, Allen. I took some photographs yesterday when we went back but to be honest I think Carole and myself were in shock at the damage to the site and everyones caravans. You raise a good point about making lists and removing the furnishings which have not been affected, I hadn't thought about that. Our insurance is with C.& C.C. Clubcare and includes new for old. I imagine that they will see how much the caravan costs to repair and clean up.

The insurance asessor has just telephoned to say that he will be out to look at our caravan on Thursday morning so it doesn't look as though they intend to hang about anyway

Thanks Maureen

Apparently he has got a good few to see on Thursday. At least ours didn't go floating off down the river Avon like some poor devils caravans. We have loss of use in our policy, so I hope we can still go away over the August bank holiday. We always go to the Glenn Miller festival at Twinwoods farm and we bought our tickets last month. They have a guy doing an Elvis Presley tribute this time as well

I hope the Elvis tribute act doesn't sing 'cry me a river' or 'by the rivers of Babylon' or anything like that :0)

Steve and cal, it's good to see that you haven't lost your SoH in spite of your problems. I have a friend lives in Pershore, and she's escaped the water by only a couple of feet. Good luck.

Thanks Emmerson

Glad that the water missed your friends house, lets hope that Pershore soon gets back to normal. When you see what happened in & around the Evesham-Tewkesbury area things get put into prospective. We feel sorry for that young family who lost their premature twins. On a lighter note we wonder wether to use any insurance money to buy a boat.

Thanks Allen and everyone else on the forum who sent their good wishes.

We met the insurance assesor this morning at the site where our caravan is. He was a bit late as he was (understandably) very busy. Coincidentally he was also there to look at the tourer next to ours. He explained that he is an independent assesor who was working for several insurance companies. The gentleman had a quick look at the outside of the van and noted the cris number. The outside bore hardly any evidence of flooding, but it was a new 'van in March and I only Auto Glymmed it a fortnight ago :( We then went inside (we didn't bother to wipe our feet) and the man looked under the upholstery where he could see that the entire floor had been covered by about six inches of river water and Goodness knows what else. He asked if we had 'new for old' cover, which we do, and declared it a total loss. The same happened on the next pitch, which was more damaged than ours.

Carole and myself are on the one hand releived that our loss will be made good, but we can't help feeling sadness for the caravan that we collected new from the dealers in March with such joy & optimism. It has beem our first ever new caravan, we started with a 1986 Eccles Topaz & had various models, all the time going 'tyre kicking' round any dealers and exhibitions we saw DEALERS- - JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO GO BACK TO THE NEC... We took our personal possesions that were any good away this afternoon, each ticket or leaflet from the draw evoking fond memories and the caravan will be recovered next week on a truck.

I apologise if this post has been a bit wordy, thanks for taking time out to read it,& I'll let you know what happens next, I'll go now 'cos even the cat's getting a bit misty eyed

(fades to some Simon Bates radio 2-typpe music....,)

Steve and Cal,

Hope that you get a quick payout and then don't have to wait too long before you are up and running again.

Keep smiling.

Well done,I think it was a great result, you can now look forward to selecting a new van.Dont forget you do not have to go for the same van again, youcan ask for the value of the purchase price then go for a different make of van. There are so many deals around at the moment the world is your lobster,or you can let the insurance co.source a like for like but they will get it a bit cheaper from the retailers old stock,or you can hold onto the cash and wait for the new models to come out.Its good position to be in,Ive been there its a great feeling.Let us all know how you get on.

Many thanks for your kind words Maureen and Allen.

I think that we will choose the latter option that Allen mentioned and hang on a short while untill the 2008 models come out. We have enjoyed looking round the different caravans in the past and listening to the various comments that other people have made when they are there at the same time.

We had a seasonal pitch before but after this we have decided to let that go so that we can tour more often. we hope to try some C.L.s in various parts of the country. But not too close to rivers though :0)
