Hi
I have resealed both on my own caravan and others, I used sikaflex 512 or the newer version of 522 it is a reasonably easy job but quite labour intensive as you need to remove ALL the old sealant and clean all surfaces with white spirit and then methalated spirit before applying new sealant, also if the strap has leaked for a while the roof rafter could be rotted so may need renewing, as for using a tape over the strap may be OK but if I saw a caravan with tape on the roof they are trying to hide a problem that has already happened

Hibthanks gra easy job but to.me it's belt andbraces to do this as it's a pinch point for leakages particular with pooling water.

Hi John, I still haven't gotten round to doing my Coachman. This year's excuse has been detached Retina, and now Carpal tunnel Syndrome.
At year 3 I had a new rear panel replaced by Coachman in Hull, and they resealed all the roof joints at that time. So far it is still a below 15% damp caravan.

Ps, typing this with my special tipless compression gloves on.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is not pleasant. I had the op done in my early forties and was supposed to work one handed for nearly 6 months. Luckily it was repairing TVs so only had to get someone to lift them onto the bench for me.

I am being bounced around from Physio, to Rheumatology and now to Neurology, I cannot grip small items like Screwdrivers etc, I am building a model Sopwith Camel and a radio controlled car, all on hold now.

So trying to grip a roller to seal down the tape for roof joints would be almost impossible. I found this tape. Actual roof lock tape is mega expensive, but probably worth it.

I was lucky as saw the doctor and two weeks later the op and home the same day. I have an interest in the Sopwith Camel. Is it a large model and just an Airfix model? Quite a plane in its day.

I was considering Rooflock, or Eternabond, both of which have an excellent reputation albeit not cheap. In the end my Swift dealer gave me some of the OEM white seal tape. That did the job fir 6 months whilst I waited for the new rear panel to be fitted.

It is a 18 inch wingspan, Balsa model, rubber powered. And tissue covered.
An on going project.
