Getting a seasonal pitch with a 10 amp hookup. To avoid tripping the hookup and calling the site warden to restore, is it possible to fit an "onboard" trip switch just below 10 amps.

I very much doubt it will work, I've been on a 10A supply for years with a 10A in the van, should it overload it's always bypassed the vans mcb and trips the post or indeed in the case of an RCD, it's common to go back all the way to the main site isolation board and trip that.

Several reasons but mainly MCB's are built within tolerances, some then will be slightly more sensitive than others, also, the post MCB will have been abused more than your van and this generally weakens them and increases their sensitivity

Just manage your appliances - a modern caravan would trip even a 15/16 amp MCB if you turn everything on and plug certain items into sockets.

We find that basic discipline works just fine on 10A hookups - the same discipline also works on 5A hookups.

If someone's using a hairdryer while the microwave is cooking dinner, the kitchen kettle's on for a cup of tea and the heater's on full blast - it won't last !!

To jennifer and other contributors thanks for all your useful comments and leads.I emailed the manufacturers of Reich Fuse Control units and was advised they stopped producing them about 12 months ago.

.....9 times out of 10 it is the use of a domestic kettle that is the last straw for the site overload trip.

They can be up to 3kw/16amps ....... buy a specialist caravan kettle of 1kw and bear RogerL's comments in mind.
