Hi, we are thinking of changing our caravan. The one we have viewed has a scratch approximately 1 m along the side, it does not affect the caravan and is just cosmetic. Does anyone know roughly the price to fix this or do you think we should ask for a reduction in price to cover the cost of fixing? Thanks

Impossible to give any idea as to the cost iof repair as there are so many different things to consider, is it just paint? Is it metal? GRP? or ABS? how deep is it etc etc?

I once went too close to a tall hedge in the IoW. Caused a 2 metre scratch about 40 cm below the roof. As it was a fairly new van it was an insurance job. The dealer sub let the painting.

3 times I went back to pick up the van, 50 mile round trip. Each time I refused to accept. Problem is, the blending in of the shade, texture and sheen of the paint is very difficult.

Ok. Two years ago a bump by my neighbour caused 3 dents and 4 scratches about 18” long . A cash only job , done on site cost her £650.

Just seen Bill’s as mine got posted. Same hymn sheet.

Last year I part exchanged our caravan, the one that we were getting rid of was under 2 years old, BUT I managed to melt the GRP side panel (don't ask......), an area around 8" x 2". The dealer had it repaired and it cost me £450. The repair was invisible, even in direct sunlight. I restore classic cars and can spot a repair a mile away, but this really was good!

The downside to any caravan repair is that it will be done using paint, whereas the original factory finish will be a different process so there is a chance that the repair will weather differently over time and become visible later. I always tell people not to polish any repairs after they're done with any too aggressive/abrasive.
