Hello Gary,

I cant make any recommendations regarding individual make or models, but you should check with your insurance company who will indicate the minimum security measures you must take.

That information may include preferences or even specific models of security items.

Then heaven forbid the van does get stolen, the insurance company cant back out of the liability on th bases that your measures were sub standard.

hi john

we haven't got as far as insuring it yet. can you recommend 2 or 3 decent insurers for me to ring.

my aim is to secure it suffient enough so a claim is not needed.

prevention better than the cure so to speak.

i would take the wheels and towing hitch if i had to.

Hi Gary

I agree with John that you should contact your insurance company first to see what they specify it required.

I would have thought that you should get your insurance sorted out before you take delivery of your caravan but the others might know better than me.

Also do not think that by putting lots of security devices on your caravan will deter the ones who are hell bent on taking your caravan but you will deter the opportunity theives. We had over 6 security devices on ours including no jockey wheel and they still removed them all and took the van in a built up area from the garden and from under a street light.

well we don't collect it until next week and it will go straight to the secure storage site. the site has about 150 vans includung some very posh motor homes. big iron gates with security posts in from as well.

however never insuring a van before could anyone recommend a couple of insurers please.

thanks

Just swapped vans, so I shopped around.

After lots of trawling around I decided to stay with the Caravan Club who weren`t the cheapest. I only need one form of security, caravan guard were 40quid cheaper but required three forms of security at all times. Not a big enough difference to cover the hassle, let alone the outlay.

Hello Gary,

I am not an IFA or an insurance broker, so I will not offer advice about which policy is best, shop-around, but it would be wise to sort out your insurance and make sure it is in force before you pick up the caravan.

By all means check the other postings on this and other sites about insurance companies
