Caravan security on site

Having just sent off for 3m of steel cable to secure our new solar panel to the caravan, I have started to wonder how secure sites are in general. I suppose there will always be some low life prowling about waiting to pounce!. We have folding bikes, so they can either be secured to the caravan or folded up and put in the car. We have an Al-Ko wheel lock. The main door is alarmed. TV and any valuables either locked in the car or out of sight. Not much else we can do on the face of it, apart from a barbed wire entanglement and anti-personnel minefield..... but any other security tips / advice welcome.

Apart from the cable when we had a free standing solar panel, wheel and hitch locks that about all we've ever had and never any problems yet. The cadac is usually tucked away at the back of the van and my electric wheelchair sits in the awning all night. We have rarely stayed anywhere that has any form of security beyond an unlocked 5 bar gate.

You can add leg locks of course if you really want to.

In over thirty years of caravanning we have only ever had one pump stolen so have never found theft a problem. Urban sites tend to be more prone due to locals sometimes finding them easy pickings, but their main target seems to be bikes which are often left vulnerable and are easy to dispose of so, do make sure they are secure. Caravan accessories are of less use to them as the market is far smaller although the odd thief in a caravan cannot be ruled out.

A CC site ( CMCC??) in the East Midlands had a very bad reputation for Chavs gaining illegal entry and walking of with things.
Personally never lost a thing touch wood.
My best advice to you just be absolutely sure you have fully complied with your Insurers security demands. Failure to do so may result in a rejected claim :(

I assume you mean Clumber Park. I gather there is a gate in the side and the locals tend to run off with insecure bikes.

Haven’t had personal loss in 40 years, - however can relate to a couple of incidents. (1) On a rally on a commercial site in S. Yorks, friend had a small van so generally put his awning up to use as a lounge, with telly and other bits in there to make it comfortable. Got up one morning to find his telly and other bits gone out of the awning. He (nor anyone else heard a thing) they hadn’t used the zips to gain entrance so as to make no noise, but had sliced the front windows with a Stanley type knife from top to bottom. Spent next morning with ‘gaffa’ tape taping his awning windows. (2) A little more light hearted, but on a rally field at a cricket club, social on Saturday night in the cricket pavilion. Now Jack & Sylvia were there, and known to imbibe quite a bit. When Sylvia and Jack went into their awning after social, Sylvia was heard to say “Jack, somebody has pinched the door”. And neither could work it out to start with! – What in fact had happened was that some of the teenagers had been out during the evening, unpegged the porch slid it along the awning rail so it wasn’t over the door, repegged it. Although a rather ‘naughty’ prank, but did cause a lot of humour for some time.

We hide anything valuable ..... or take it with us when we go out. The chairs and table are in the awning and the party chef cooker is at the back of the van out the way.Our insurers require the hitch and wheel lock to be on too. We tend to use larger sites where there is normally someone about during the day. That said, it the scalliwags want something, they'll have it!

In over thirty years of caravanning we have only ever had one pump stolen so have never found theft a problem.

Funny enough, thats the only loss we ever had. A brand new pump not only stolen but a scabby mouldy stuck back in its place.
mentioned it to the warden in passing and he told me that............
Hed had been watering the plants, nipped in to use the loo leaving hose running. when he came out all the hozelock fittings had been pinched.
Somebody actually stole a shower curtain form the toilet block. I mean come on, who would want a used shower curtain from a site. The mind boggles.
Also in the East Midlands bye the way but not the one previously mentioned.
I tend to have more problems with idiots rather than thieves.
