I worked for a company once who tested trackers that were designed for expensive cars. The trackers had their own sim-cards so they were basically mobile alarms. This was 6 years ago, and lots has happened since then in the automotive industry.

That was the long answer, the short answer is I do't see why not, but you would probably need an interface cable conecting the alarm and the mobile, and it may need a specific phone too.

I remember seeing a few years ago a program on your computer which, for a price, would 'Ping' a mobile phone and give it's location to the nearest 100m. This was designed to track your errant teenagers but it was suggested that if you hid a mobile in your van you could periodically check it's location.

Hi I have bought the metis gps tracker from my local dealer, this will text you on an alarm and on movement.

Quality bit of kit with no annual cost like tracker etc.

It is possible to buy trackers that just have a SIM card in them. You then just text the SIM card and the exact GPS position is returned.

You might find some details on security at http://www.caravan.homedns.org

One reasonably priced solution is the "Spybox". It rings you if triggered, so you program it's number in your Mobiles address book "Spybox" or "Van".

You put a SIM in it (having first programmed it's first address book entry to be your Mobile).

Does, of course, rely on there being a GSM signal (on the network you choose) at your Vans location.

Does'nt have any GPS module.
