Morganic, what you should expect is for the caravan to be serviced diligently in accordance with the manufactureres schedule.

What you get maybe different and not meet the criteria above. I booked a home service on my van with the supplying main dealer who offered this facility. I had just had my drive relaid and said to the "engineer" when he arrived " I will provide a load spreader when you want to jack the van up". His reply was that under health and safety he was not allowed to lift the van on his own. I asked him how he was going to check the brakes and he said he wasn't. I of course complained to the dealer who to their credit attnded for a 2nd time with 2 "engineers", completed the work and cut

Morganic. Unfortunately you stand the risk of being ripped off big time !!

In my part of the world I need 3 days to book a car into a main dealer for a service but 3 months to book a caravan in.

The industry is buoyant in sales and servicing so you need a dealer that you have experience of and can trust. Small independant dealers can be good value but you may need to preserve your remaining warranty so check first.

Morganic there is a guy who I see regularly in the fields at the back of my house, he shoots rabbits. I got talking to him one day when I was under my van greasing it. He told me he worked for a caravan dealer for many years shifting caravans between sites, collecting from customers etc, he also told me when the dealer in question got busy he used to service a few as well-this worried me a bit.

I service my own van, as a ex mechanic I feel confident in doing it and it really isn't that difficult. I also have the gas side of the van serviced when I have my LPG central heating done annually, this does not cost any extra as the heating engineer says there is not that much to check.

I'm sure all dealers are not the same but I think it pays to make sure you are getting value for money and a proper job done.

Good luck
