chris - we have a first class service engineer in south Wales who only takes a day to carry out a full srvice. He will even visit us and do the work on the drive or tow the van back to his depot and return it in the evening. If he is on a local weekend rally and we require his service he will come to us from the rally field.

Two weeks for a service is a total mockery and they appear to me to be a man and a dog outfit with the dog doing most of the work.

I've been told the manufacturers pay a significantly lower hourly rate for warranty rework and warranty servicing at their approved dealerships. May perhaps account for your van being pushed to the back of the queue for more lucrative alternatives?

Specialist car workshops are nearly always cheaper and more reliable than their main dealer counterparts, so why should vans be different? I'd use them every time if I was sure my comeback rights on the manufacturer wereen't endangered.

I cannot understand why it should take so long. As James has said, the dealer must be very disorganised. We have our caravan serviced at Kimberley, Notts, and it ususlly take a couple of days.

Reckon its down to the individual dealership. Hope you complained to their principals and said they were giving their product a bad name.

Having said use the small guy, I have to commend Berkshire Caravans who did my initial Bailey warranty service as promised in a single day booked way in advance AND picked up a couple of items I'd not seen. In sharp contrast to a South Coast Geist dealership who were pathetic beyond belief in investigating and rectifying lack of heating fronm the word go.

But if such service is essential to preserve your damp proof warranty etc why the hell isn't it FREE and included in the purchase price?

Angela - I can recommend Caravan Master at Pontyclun, Nr. Llantrisant for servicing and repair. I have used this firm for annual service many times and they have also called to my home to undertake work on the van with no extra charge for call out. Their telephone number is (01443)449973 - mobile 07977911006 and e-mail address byron@caravanmaster.co.uk.

They are fully approved for all main caravan manufacturers and also National Caravan Council.

Incidentally I have no connection with the company apart from being a satisfied customer.

I hope they haven't hired it out !!

My dealer usually takes a day. Drop off night before; collect mid pm next day.

Thank you all for all your comments. My caravan was due to go in for service on the 6th of July so we took all our security devices off as they were going to tow the caravan off the compound. They did not get the caravan till the Friday to service it.We got the caravan back on Tues 14th. My point is who would be reponsable if the caravan got stolen while it was on the compound while waiting to be taken for the service. Nobody told us that the caravan was not going to taken on Monday

so how would i stand if it got stolen.

Hi Chris,

If your in Notts are you refering to a well known east notts dealership? See my other comment today regarding such an organisation. Have you tried LE caravans, they are a registered service workshop for a number of caravans, and WANT you to take your van away same day?

90% of all my services are sameday services ie. drop off at 8.30 pick up after lunch or drop off at 11 and collect before 5pm.

so i can only say if someone needs a caravan for 2 weeks they are either very disorganised or dont carry a correct amount of the correct parts needed to complete a service, even when there are faults. i carry all parts needed for faults with truma, thetford, dometic and alko products along with a huge sellection of roadlights from hella, jokon etc and interior lights. this results in approx
