Hi everyone, doing tunnel with caravan for first time ( many times with ferry)but weighing up whether to find a site near to Coquelles (I'm on 20:20 from Folkestone) before driving on A16 next morning to French Riv (Esterel)or picking up an aire de repos (early hours) after a couple of hours driving. All suggestions warmly received. Phil

If you are heading towards Boulogne on the A16 continue on the peage section towards Abbeville. Sixty miles from the terminal is the motorway service area, Baie du Somme. It's a favourite with caravanners for a first overnight stop after having a late evening crossing. There are two areas, both signposted with dedicated caravan parking bays. Six or seven of the bays are quite close to the main entrance to the facilities block. The service area is frequently visited by the mobile gendarmes throughout the night, so security isn't a problem. The only (slight) drawback is the swishing noise from the wind generator - not that it ever bothers me.

Thanks John, I'll be heading down the A26 towards Reims (sorry not the A16) but I do agree with your suggestion as I've used the Baie before on the way down to Argeles last year. The noise from the turbines didn't bother us as we were shattered.
