Caravan taps and cold weather

Hi All

I have just been out preparing the van for an Easter get away and noticed that both the kitchen and bathroom taps appear to have been "broken" by something, presumably the cold. The bathroom tap is not so serious, it is just the nozzle has popped out of the spout. However the kitchen tap appears to be a bit more serious. It is a single level Reich Kama (I think) and the tap body (I just touched it...honest) came away from the base completely at the bottom of the ceramic cartridge. The central sleeve section has come loose from its screw thread base. I managed to get it back together but have not tested with the pump on yet. It dioesn't seem as though anything is actually broken, so I am hoping to get away with it for this weekend.

Is this a common occurance, or have I just been unlucky? BTW Both taps were left as instructed in the open position half way twixt hot and cold, and yes the water system was fully drained down.

My guess is that some residual water had worked its way between the parts, froze and "broke" the joints. If that is the case, how can it be avoided in future?

Cheers

David

Been there David ;O(

there is always a bit of water left in the tap which will freeze when cold. Always make sure you leave the taps in the open position and it shouldn't happen again.

Think you are right , it does soundlike water freezing damage . maybe there was a week point? All you can do is replace and hope it doesn't happen again.

When mine broke I had great trouble getting a replacement as it seemed everyone else had done the same ;O)

Now there's a design fault that will never be fixed, too much money to be made ;O)

I hope I have been a bit lucky. I just spent some tim ereairing the tap and it looks like there was no physical damage and I have reassembled it (on third attempt) and it does not leak around the base any more.

Fingers crossed it holds out for next week. I may pack some epoxy, just in case
