Caravan to motorhome or vice versa?

I haven't changed but did look extensively into buying a VW campervan before plumping for a caravan.

a motorhome is probably less practical in the sense that if you want to travel when on site you have to drag your home plus belonging where-ever you go - and then park it somewhere!

it is also another vehicle to tax, insure, and service with a lot more moving parts than a caravan.

so a caravan is probably more flexible but has to be towed, still has to be insured and serviced then has to be stored somewhere (unless you go for an Eriba like mine! but that is another story).

you will probably find fanatics extolling the virtues of both, so like most things it comes down to personal preference in the end!

hope you find what you are looking for.

Hiya, we changed from a Caravan to a Motorhome 3 years ago, we kept the Motorhome for 18 months, it only had 4,000 miles on the clock when we sold it, now wait for it we lost 10,000 pounds by changing back to a Caravan,The Motorhome was a beauty, Swift Kon-tiki, but it was noisy when travelling even though I wrapped what I could in bubblewrap, it was cold, and draughty (ok in the warm weather) as the front windows are not double glazed the cold used to strike from them, even though we had an insulated window cover,it was not ideal for parking in lots of Carparks due to height and length, we would not park on the road side for fear of it being stolen, and my precious dogs were inside,as we used it as a Caravan, we decieded to tow a small car, which of course was more expense, this was ok it allowed us to go off site without the Motorhome, but it did seem to defeat the object of not Towing, plus it was a very long mass when car was attached, so we bit the bullet and went back to the Caravan, never to change again,we used to look at Motorhomes and say we will have one one day, now we see them and say been there done that, it was not for us.perhaps if you use it for touring, and moving on the nextday it would suit your purpose, but as a base on site we found it did not gel for us, I used to go into the Motorhome when it was on the drive and say to it, you are a beutiful thing why can I not gel with you.but we love our Caravan. and would not even contemplate another Motorhome, others no doubt have found it ideal for them, but please ask lots of people about the change, as we have met many, many that have gone back to the Caravan for various reasons, it was a very expensive learning curve for us, but as Hubby said, it's no good keeping it if we are not happy, and after all there are no pockets in shrouds.
