Caravan Width

Having just fitted an Omnistor canopy I am pondering the following:

If a pull out canopy is fitted to the side of the caravan how does this affect the legal definition of the caravan width?

If the van is already 2.3m wide does the canopy then make it too wide ?

Anybody know??

You would have to ask the Department of Transport for a definitive statement on how overall width is determined but my interpretation of the law is that all permanent fittings except outside rear view mirrors are included. Therefore, if the Omnistor canopy can be removed without the use of tools, it is considered a temporary fitting and is not included, otherwise, yes. When I'm back home, I'll have a look at the relevant EU Directive and that may also shed some light on the definition.
