Hi all
Looking for some sound advice on getting suitable broadband in the van.
We stay on a lot of CL Sites in Cornwall and some have very poor signal.
I’ve been looking at Huawei routers with the possibility of a poynting puck antenna to further boost the signal but not being that totally tech savvy I would look forward to some sound advice for best options to achieve a good set up so we can use Such things as Netflix and also work from our laptop in the van whilst away…
Many thanks
Chris

Welcome to the Forum. I just relied on mobiles but you should get some good advise as some members have full systems. In the meantime a search will pull up threads as it’s been discussed many times.

Not Wi-Fi directly.

Possibly stating the obvious but a point that needs realising is that all these mobile phone signal using devices, at best only increase the "gain", the ability to pull in any viable signal.
They can't pull in something that is not there, or is, but too weak to carry the sustained signal for streaming.

Best starting point is to look at your particular mobile provider's "coverage" map, against the specific CL sites you are thinking about.
If that looks sick, look at the other major primary provider's maps in the same manner, as buying an alternative SIM, probably by the month from one of the "cheap" satellite companies that piggy back on the primary providers, might offer a cost effective viable solution.

I have found, placing my mobile in the awning, or on my car's dash, to tether from there rather than with it within the van, can often yield way better results, though again that only works where an effective signal exists.
Our phones are on different providers, that flexibility helps increase our chances quite a bit.

Excellent post regarding weak signal and placing phone in awning. We also at times place our mobile outside the top skylight as a lot depends where the mast is located.
