caravanning in winter with baby

Hi,

Has anyone done the winter caravan trip with a baby? What do you suggest for bedding to keep baby warm? I'm looking at max 5 degrees in the van. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Simone

Re winter caravanning with baby - try to put as much blanket &/or duvet under the wee one as over the top and wear a woolly hat at bedtime. (baby I mean - but mum and dad also!) Leave van heater on low on electric. If bottle feeding keep a bottle handy - not in fridge.

Hi simone,

Both my daughters went on their first caravan trips in February. My first daughter was 8 weeks old on her first trip and my youngest was 4 weeks old. We just made sure the temp in the van was about what we would have had it at home. blankets just in case! Start them young. Took the bottle warmer and steriliser,

good luck,

Gareth

Thanks for the suggestions. It's a toss up between all the SIDS recommendations (no hats, woolly sheepskin blankets, duvets) & freezing her to death. As she'll be at least 6 months I think a few extra blankets won't do her too much harm. She'll still be breastfeeding (& solids) so at least her milk will always be nice & warm 🙂

I'm just about to take my 16month old son Caravanning for the first time this weekend.

He still has sleeping in these sleevless sleeping bag contraptions and i have fashioned a side to his bed out of some thick white mesh material and screw in press studs, im more worried about him escaping than i am the temperature.
