We have just bought on a bit of a whim our first caravan - it's a Bessecarr Cameo 420 gl 1988 model ( I think ) and managed to pick up an awning as well to go with it. We use a Renault Laguna 2.0 to pull it all and went away for the first weekend to Cadwell Park to watch the Bike Racing. Having never ever done this before we opted to stay at a campsite about 11 miles from Louth in Saltfleetby where it's really for people who love to fish as has 3 fishing lakes but the owner was brilliant and although we didnt use his fishing lakes he allowed us to stay and make a base camp for our adventures.
It wasn't a weekend without teething problems though. My Husband was a bit keen getting the caravan out of the yard and onto the road before doing all the checks that he should have done and Bang !!!! tore the jockey wheel off on the high kerb outside our house - what a start.
Then we had torrential rain, then the automatic transmission on the car went into safety mode, got to the camp just as was getting dark, put the awning up by feel and the little tent that the girls decided they would stay inside, forgot the ground sheet and the little one that goes along the bottom of the caravan to stop the draughts. In the morning the awning had gallons of water saved in the top as we hadn't pulled it tight enough and this was bulging to say the least right above my daughter's little tent !!
What a pallaver but I can honestly say it was brilliant and can't wait to go again. My 2 daughters loved it and they are 18 and 22. The bit I can't get over is how friendly people are although I did find it odd that a lady whom I had never met, sat on the toilet in the next cubical having a good old chat to me. Starting her converation with - Oh I do wish they would warm these seats !!! Brilliant. ha ha So Officially I think Caravanning is cool !!!!
