caravanning without EHU

Hi all, we are off to Rutland for a week on Saturday, and we have decided to set off on Friday afternoon and have an extra day at a site on the way, we have booked the site for the night, but we could only secure a pitch without electric. We have never done this before, i.e. we have always had ehu, so what will work off the vans battery, apart from the lights? Will the water pump work, and can I plug the kettle in etc,

Thanks for any replies,

Cheers, Roy

As you have a non hook up pitch, nothing which works on mains will work.

Lights will work if they are 12v, but if you have two mains lights they will not.

The water pump will work, the fan for the blown air heating will work. If you have a radio, that will work if it is 12v.

The fridge will only work on GAS, the fire will only work on GAS as will the water heater.

The kettle will not work, you will have to use one which is designed to be heated by gas on the hob.

Herself and I and a lot of friends have just got back from a rally with the Freedom North East caravan Club in a field with nothing but a water tap, and an Elsan dump, for a week, and it was great! we'd forgotten how much fun basic caravanning be.

Go for it, and enjoy!

We go on C&CC rallies most weekends with the facilities as described by Emmerson more often than not.

There's no better sound than a whistling kettle on the gas stove.

How many days use do you others get when you run off your battery.....with average use. TV in the evening, just one light on.

We go away for 4 night spells about 15 times a year, NEVER use a hook up at all.

I do cheat as I have another battery wired up such that I get 12 volts but twicwe the normal time. I still take a small generator for emergencies.

DONT FORGET.......your TV wont work either if its just a normal 240 volt set.
