Looking for advice & tips on caravaning with a baby (& 2 dogs) as my wife is due to give birth to our first child in 2 weeks. we've been caravaning for about 10 years (started young !) with 2 medium sized Dogs but this will be our first season with a baby so any tips would be usefull such as sleeping arrangements & extra things we might need etc... Thanks.

Congratulations on your impending arrival!

There are a few threads on here about babies - try searching 'babies' or 'baby' in the forum search and you'll get quite a few good tips.

Most seem to advocate using Argos bed guards - we could still do with using one for our 4 year old who fell out of bed on our first night in our caravan last October!

Good luck

When our son was 12 days old we took him away for the weekend! I bought a pop-up carrycot which was very compact when folded but was lovely and comfortable for him. If you have a seperate carrycot with your pram / pushchair this would also be ideal. When he was in the carrycot we put it at the side of our bed nearest the front window when the bed was made up and then at the bottom of our bed when we got a different van with a fixed bed. If you have a microwave in your caravan you cann get sterlising bags to put in there instead of taking a large steriliser.

good luck

We tour with our (now two) daughter who loves it.

One tip for sleeping - she sleeps in her own sleeping bag (the baby variety sold as 'Grobags') which restricts her movements and means that she doesn't wriggle around so much, consequently she doesn't fall out of bed (so much!).

Invariably she does fall out of bed - but we put a cushion on the floor. She tends to 'slide' out rather than 'bump' out.

Go for it. It's great.

Our youngest started caravanning at the early age of 8 days. We had just bought the caravan and wanted to take advantage of my Paternity leave. We only went 10 miles from home in case we needed to get home - even took two cars.

Baby George slept in him carrycot on the hob - on a low heat (only joking) away from our other two. He's now taking his first steps and the caravan lounge is ideal for him.

Once he was too big for the carrycot, we moved him to a Samsonite bubble - this allows us to zip him into a netted area.
