Just booked our summer holiday at Carylon Bay Camping and Caravaning site in Cornwall just outside of St Austell the reviews are excellent.

Rather than coming on here to boast that I was getting a holiday, I wanted to draw your attention to the plight of the locals who have long suffered a partial demolition of an iconic building on the sea front.

Their website http://www.carlyonbaywatch.com/ tells the full story and there is a petition to sign and im sure they would welcome your support.

It wont effect my holiday but its a massive shame that this once thriving tourist beach is now a building site and it looks like will continue in this state of limbo until at least 2016. The developers should be ashamed of themselves.

Thanks for reading.

I used to go camping at Carlyon Bay campsite as a child with a friend and his family we only lived 20 miles or so away at the time and had fond memories of playing in the pool and using the facilities at Crinnis beach (Cornish leisure world) then as i grew older i would visit the nightclub (Gossips) and Cornwall Coliseum to see some of the biggest names in music and showbiz, this was the only place in Cornwall where you could see these stars Bucks fizz, Status Quo, Cannon & Ball are just a few of them from the 80s.
Now i take my caravan to St Austell once a year sometimes twice and always visit Crinnis Beach as it brings back so many memories and its so sad to see it in the state its in, This place was so full of life back in the 70s 80s and 90s and not just in the summer but all years round. Now its a ghostly silent place with half demolished buildings
I just want to say Thank you Steve for starting this thread but the place has been like this for the past 10 years and unfortunatly the Developers do not care while they sit in there plush offices hundreds of miles away if a few people moan.

Lets hope something is sorted soon

Any way I diversed, could hardly drive across the car park the pot holes were like open coal mines!!
Terrible state, did'nt get out to see the beach area, turned around and left.

on the left in front of the building was where the crazy golf used to be and on the right was where the outdoor pool and miniture railway that went part way along the beach in the 70s great memories.

It's just such a shame to see what was once a thriving beach and a good one by the looks of the photos on the website ruined.

I have no affiliation to the area or site but would hope if enough people signed the petition then maybe just maybe something could be done. This sought of thing just should not be allowed to happen.

It should never had been sold to the developers in the first place, someone got very rich over that sale, What with dodgy councillors taking back handers i expect, They weren't expecting opposition from the public, The very people that use the beach day to day.
I wouldnt mind betting the residance of carlyon bay were all for it as from what i have seen some of them are a snooty lot

you know the type, move into the area then complain that they dont want the people driving through to get to the beach and they dont like the noise etc.
It should have been re-developed into a new venue for concerts bands etc whilst still keeping the beach and leisure facilities it would have been thriving this time of year bustling with people using the beach eating in a restaurant and watching live concerts etc with the kids enjoying a large pool.
Instead it will stay like it is until the developers get there way and the beach is lost forever.
