Postal delays!

On Monday I got a loan from the bank manager to be able to post by first class several Christmas cards around the country as the amount to post was staggering. Needless to say that a week later none have arrived at their destination. One of the destination is only 15 miles from our home! Next year when the RM is outsourced to a Czech businessman , there will be fewer deliveries. Also we will probably revert to sending more "e" type Christmas cards for people further afield.

We left posting too late for Australia. 😡. So used Moonpig. Yes, a little dearer, but included the card and arrive well in time.

Personally I consider Christmas cards an out of date anachronism. They were great when people lived far away, and communication was really difficult so a card to say "Still thinking of you and I hope you are keeping well" showed you cared.

But with mobile phones, face time, WhatsApp and the like, actual person to person communication in real time is easy to achieve. My daughter lives 8000 miles away in the Falklands, I can connect with her, by WhatsApp video call, virtually instantaneously. Post sometimes takes twelve, yes twelve weeks!

We use Moonpig for birthdays for one or two relatives during the year and never thought about it for Christmas, but don't they also use RM for delivery of cards?

We didn't send any this year, wife did it on social media, instead we donated to local charity. Winners all round 👍

We have done the same for about 4 years , donate to Sally Army and Crisis.

We normally also donate to Sal Army plus the Dogs Trust in addition to sending cards. We used to donate to the Red Cross but no longer as we donate to the Royal Mail!

We always buy cards from single charities as that maximises their income. But we still send cards within UK and overseas too. Apart from hand delivering to local family and neighbours we always post our cards using 2nd class. The cards we buy, like our gift wrapping paper are non glitter and can be recycled with our normal paper/cardboard recycling after Christmas. I write letters to specific friends but have stopped including them within the cards and the letters go by email now. We like opening cards and they get hung up in the lounge.

We donate to British Heard Foundation and dog food bank at our local supermarket ,my wife sends our Christmas cards to our relatives , friends with a 2nd class stamp very early and we do deliver to some neighbours. .

Considering we used 1st class stamps and a week later nothing has arrived, we might as well have used 2nd class!

I keep them and cut around the pictures ( provided there is no writing on the back) to make gift tags for next year. The excess card goes in the recycling bin as long as there is no glitter.

This year for various reasons we've sent predominantly ecards from Jacquie Lawson.

This way we can actually include more people than we usually do with real cards.

Do prefer proper cards though as there more personal.

We like cards in the home . A seasonal reminder of our long distance family and friends.All the Grandkids are at an age where they make their own cards for family and friends. Just a bit more personal touch.
Never do Ist class stamps. Most released before Advent Sunday.

Can the Royal Mail remain Royal since its overseas takeover🤔

We used to send about 80 cards a year. If we sent the same number by 1st class post this year it would have cost around £135 for postage.
Now we've just had a card through the door saying a card from our Grandson has insufficient postage and requesting £2.50 for delivery.
They really are extracting the urine!

They have done that for years where there has been insufficient postage paid. How you pay it theses days would be interesting.

I use a HP printer, sign up, and they send you ink before you run out.

I’ve used HP Instant Ink for over six years now and it’s so much easier than trogging the net for replacement cartridges. It works out cheaper too and I’ve never been let down by lack of a replacement cartridge. Also depending on what’s on I will amend the price to up or reduce my allowance of printed pages. Also the prepaid envelope allows easy and proper recycling of used cartridges. Great service.

No working postal system in South Africa.

I have also had 4 requests to post reviews for both the supplier and Evri in that time.

Evri are the worst courier in the UK and if we are aware a business is using them we go elsewhere!

However an update on delivery of cards. Two of the 6 cards we sent have arrived at their destination. No idea about the other 4, but maybe today?
