Falmouth is only about 6 miles with a selection of beaches, Newquay 18 miles with another selection but there are quite a few others. At Carnon Downs you are nicely placed to head for the north or south Cornish coast.

If it is Carnon Downs Caravan Park you are going to it's a nice site. Little bit of noise from the A39 as vehicles are slowing up for the roundabout but it's ok inside the van. Some of the best showers I've seen at any site located here. A small dogwalk which can get muddy if wet weather.

Asda is on the Carnon Downs side of Falmouth so only about 5 miles away.

We stayed at Carnon Downs last November and can vouch for it being a very good site. They were building a 2nd new toilet block when we were there which looked very much like the other one and that was supperb.

As mentioned you're not overly far from a lot of places there we travelled as far as St Ives. However you will need to factor in that the roads will be far busier and if you do go up to Newquay you will have to circum navigate Truro and thats a busy old place at the best of times.

If you choose the Newquay option , try going a tad further up to Watergate Bay (about 4 miles north) far quieter and nicer than Fistral etc in Newquay.

Havent been to Falmouth for years but I remember it being very clear blue waters.

Is Carnon Downs closer to St.Austell than Truro or have I got the wrong site?

If so then I'd try the beach near Caerhays castle which is past the Lost Gardens of Heligan near Mevagissey. Its a sandy bay surrounded by green hills with a car park close by, small cafe, toilet and beach shop. Bit off the beaten track and a few narrow roads to negotiate but we love it.
