Just thinking about getting a couple of bikes for taking away with the caravan, but wondered about there transportation.

I tow a Sterling Europa 500 with a Landrover Discovery.

Was wondering about just putting the 2 bikes inside the caravan (suitably stowed of course) but wondered if anyone else used this method, was really wondering if 2 bikes would fit through a caravan door ??

Dont really want the bikes up on any roof mounted rack as it would make them very high and difficult to get on and off and no doubt increase my fuel usage too.

What other methods do people use with 4 x 4's and bikes, ie racks on the back door or can you get racks that fit to the caravan A frame.

But really the main point is will they fit inside the caravan as that saves the expense of buying any additional bike rack

you can get a cycle carrier that fits onto the tow bar just behind the tow ball, a spacer is required to allow the van clearance, however the weight of the bikes does reduce the the tow hitch weight allowance of the vehicle if you car has a high noseweight allowance say 100kg + you may be OK

Hi,

Just remember that putting your bikes in the van will reduce your loading margin. With the police becoming increasingly interested in weights its worth checking what you are carrying. We put ours on the roof of our Landcruiser, to keep them out of the van, so that when we stop (for lunch or arrival) we can just walk into the van and use it. On the roof they can stay there if we are en route to a distant destination, and we have never been charged extra on a ferry for our height.
