This was a good program, I do feel sorry for the people who had their caravans taken off them by the police but if you buy a caravan for cash in a layby for a very good price like the fleetwood that was on the program you are asking for trouble. How many times do people have to be told not to buy anything like that!

I felt so sorry for the people who lost their vans towed away from the site afer removing all their possessions, but I felt the most sorry for the couple who's van and dog was stolen. I speak from experience as our family pet was stolen inside our van from our front driveway whilst we were living it in and sadly in our case Speedy the hamster wasn't recovered. It really upset me and brought it all back, just how horrific it was. Like some of the owners on there, our theft was witnessed and 999 was called by our neighbours, but sadly on this occasion Humberside Police failed to see this as a crime and did nothing! It was so frustrating at the time

However, it was interesting to see how the police worked with the insurance investigators to sort things out, just a shame not all forces work in the same way.

People who buy caravans in lay byes are just as guilty as the criminals so I don't feel sorry for them as more than likely they sort of knew but were hoping to get away with it. It is called "Receiving stolen goods".

I watched it on iplayer and it is scary to think you could lose everything on the spot.I felt that the families should have had the option to be taken home and then the van confiscated,Those poor children involved must have been traumatised by the goings on around them. Are we safe if our caravan is CRIS registered to us after buying it used?I am a little confused as to the information on the CRIS registration system.Does it hold the same information as a car registration document regarding HP,INSURANCE CLAIMS and PREVIOUS OWNERS.It seems to me that if any previous owners have not CRIS registered the van there will be gaps in the history. Is this correct? If so, there seems to me, to be a need for compulsory registration when changing ownership.I appreciate that this would involve a cost but this is easily offset by less insurance costs due to less claims.Or am I looking thro rose tinted specs? I was particularly alarmed as one of the vans in the program was the same as ours!!!!

I may be wrong but I think that all new caravans are CRIS registered automatically but after that it is up to the new buyer to decdie whether they want to spend

hi i sky plussed the car cops and criminal programme and watched earlier this evening,i thought it was a bit confusing reguarding some of the info reguarding caravans if i heard correctly the insurance expert first of all referred to the number on the window as a vin number and then later a cris number also the reference to the tracker i thought they were only fitted to the top of the range caravans,ps my only experience being a bailey owner i know it is offered on the senator range,or the new pegasus could anyone enlighten me it would be nice to know in the unfortunate event of one of our caravans being stolen that the hidden micro chip if found could lead to the caravan bieng recovered and perhaps the perpertrators being caught,h
