Carver 2 Mover question.

Hello, I recently purchased a broken Carver 2 mover off ebay for £100. The fault was with one of the gearboxes, these are supposed to be sealed for life but I have quite a bit of experience with gearboxes and it was in bits in 10 minutes. The problem I found was that the nylon wormwheel had stripped its teeth. I have now fitted a cast iropn wormwheel to each gearbox, it works great and is obviously stronger than original. What I want to know though is the distance to set the rollers from the tyres. I know it says 20mm in the manual, but the rollers do not have the gritty coating, they have been stripped and strips of weld put on them. I am unsure as to set it at 20mm or closer as the person I bought it off said to set it at 15mm from the tyres. Any advice please....

As I see it, you have beefed up the gearbox so that should withstand any extra pressure from being somewhat closer to the tyre, the rollers won't suffer either because the grits already gone!

The tyres might suffer but I doubt it as lot depends on the tyres pressure, a higher pressured tyre will exert more back pressure on the rollers for any given starting clearance.

In short if it slips at 20mm reduce it until it doesn't, if the gap needs reducing below 15mm I'd begin think the redesigned rollers are not good enough
