Hi I've just had my caravan serviced and the fitter recons my space heater burner box could do with changing due to corrosion, he recomeneded a second hand one.

Does anyone know how common burner boxes are accross the carver range, will any carver burner box do, or do i need to find a 3000?

Cheers Gareth

I sure you will find your Fire is the 3000S which has a steel fire box, the Carver 3000 is actually a Truma fire and uses an aluminium box.

I've seen these steel boxes in a terrible state but never so bad they needed replacing, the box is made of thick material and will respond well to a stiff wire brush and some aluminium paint to slow down further corrosion.

I say this as a new one may be very difficult to obtain due to an almost exhausted supply of spares

Right i see, thats why he said source one 2nd hand. It only needs a thermocouple but he said as the box was tatty i'd be cheaper to swap the lot. I've got a complete 3600 [i think] lined up, just wondered if the boxes were transferable.

I'll have to get under the 'van for a look asap.

The 3600 is essentially the same fire but with a different gas valve so yes the box fits as will that from a 1800S and 1800SC which know answers your question!

I might add though, I doubt the thermocouple is faulty, far more often it's the cold connection to the valve making the poor electrical connection and preventing the gas safety valve holding down.

Provided the thermocouple unscrews, simply cleaning this joint normally works, however it's again far more often seized and getting it out without damage to the valves threads is often problematical to say the least!

Hi garey & thanks,

I'll fit the burner box off the 3600 to mine and see how i get on. If the thurmo-couple is seized can i warm it with a blow lamp to free it?, [so long as its away from the gas!]

I'll let you know how i get on.

Gareth
