We have a 1999 Sterling Sheraton(europa i think)it has a Carver fan master heater, this works ok with controls on top for gas and a on/off switch near our feet in front seating area for electric. The hot water is on a switch next to the heater switch this also works ok.When i bought the van it had no instructions book and there is a switch above the front seats next to the battery gauge it says on it 'CARVER CASCADE RAPIDE'it has three small lights on it first one with a vertical line this i think means on,the second has a 12v battery symbal, the third has what looks like a flame with a line through it i pressume this is gas.If i press the button on the switch the first symbel lights up but goes out when i take my finger off it,this maybe a simple question but what is this switch for?and how should it work?we have never had a van with this on before ta

Andrew, you seem to be describing the gas control panel for the water heater. When you press the on button the burner should light automatically, indicated by the On [green led] being illuminated. If either the battery supply is low or there is a problem with the qas supply then the appropriate indicator led will come on.

If I understand you correctly you are saying that when you press the On button that the On led lights momentarily and then shuts down. This would suggest something wrong with the ignition system but I am no expert as mine worked ok whilst I had it.

Andrew, The switch by your feet is the 240v control for the heater.

I am not completely clear from your your description "when i press the button on over head switch it does'nt trip out it stays on until i take my finger off it but does nothing when i hold it on." of the symtoms.

You should only need to press the On switch momentarily and the gas burner should ignite indicated by the green led. If the battery voltage is low or the gas supply is missing then the appropriate led should light { I am unsure if the green led also goes out}.

The fault is with the control switch, you should hear the click of a relay and the green light stay on until you press the off button.

Solution is a new control switch if you can get one!, or I can fix yours for you.
